Pass in Access qualification in a relevant subject with Merit in 50% of units at level 3.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

A minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) English or Welsh is a requirement for entry to all our degree schemes. Level 3 KS/FS Communication may be acceptable in lieu of GCSE English or Welsh. For this degree scheme minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) Mathematics is also required. GCSE Mathematics-Numeracy is acceptable in lieu of GCSE Mathematics.

The BSc Mathematics/Business and Management at Aberystwyth University will allow you to explore mathematics, statistics, economics and psychology within a management context. You’ll develop knowledge, competences and understanding of how your mathematical and statistical skills can be applied to improve business objectives. Throughout the course, you’ll incrementally build up the skills required for a successful career in business. Our degree in Mathematics/Business and Management will allow you to understand the synergies between quantitative techniques and the application of management, providing you with an edge in understanding the mathematical representation of business situations and the evaluation of evidence within complex organisational systems. You’ll develop advanced knowledge of the major branches of mathematics and management, studying topics as diverse as business ethics and computational mathematics.

Within Mathematics you will learn the essential disciplines of algebra, calculus and mathematical analysis, while the Business and Management element of this course will enable you to discover areas of strategy, marketing, operations management, finance, accounting, human resource management and entrepreneurship - in addition to a range of other cutting-edge and specialist modules. The degree has been developed for a student who wants to excel and succeed to the top level of global business management practice. **What will I learn?**

In your first year you will explore topics in: Algebra and calculus; Fundamental principles of management; Mathematical analysis; Fundamentals of Management and Business; Marketing Principles and Contemporary Practice; Fundamentals of Accounting and Finance.

In your second and third years, you will be able to choose from a range of modules on topics which might include: Partial differential equations; Linear Algebra
Applied Statistic; Stochastic Models in Finance; The organisational behaviour and theory; Taxation Market structures and pricing strategies; Human resource management; The understanding of current management thinking from both practical and theoretical perspectives; Policy implications of economic theory; A compulsory independent research project which will give you the opportunity to specialise in a particular aspect of business management and marketing; The skills, analytical tools and techniques to identify and address problems and opportunities in business management and marketing.

Want to feel needed? This is one of the most flexible degrees of all and with so much of modern work being based on data, there are options everywhere for maths graduates. With all that training in handling figures, it's hardly surprising that a lot of maths graduates go into well-paid jobs in the IT or finance industries, and last year, a maths graduate in London could expect a very respectable average starting salary of £27k. And we're always short of teachers in maths, so that is an excellent option for anyone wanting to help the next generation. And if you want a research job, you'll want a doctorate — and a really good maths doctorate will get you all sorts of interest from academia and finance — and might secure some of the highest salaries going for new leavers from university.

The number of business studies graduates fell significantly last year after a long period of increase. But there were still more than 14,000 degrees awarded and this is the third most popular subject for new graduates. Because so many graduates get business studies degrees, you can find them everywhere in the economy, and very few jobs are completely out of reach for a good business studies graduate. Around 40% go into jobs in finance, sales, recruitment, management (particularly retail) or marketing. There is also a small (but well paid) group who take their technical skills into computing and IT. Thousands of graduates from this subject go into professional jobs every year, and average starting salaries are above the average for all subjects and particularly healthy in London where they top £25k. Graduates with good degree grades in business studies are much more likely to get good jobs, so don’t be complacent, and keep a close eye on your grades.
