Studying Mathematics at Aberystwyth University will allow you to discover a fascinating and challenging discipline that combines the identification and analysis of shapes and patterns with data collation and calculation.

Mathematics is fundamentally important to modern society, contributing to numerous facets of life, including science, engineering, technology and finance.

Our degree covers the essential core disciplines supplemented by a great choice of optional modules. You will be taught in lectures, tutorials and practical classes, as part of a supportive learning environment, with good staff-to-student ratios. This course includes an integrated year in industry, where you will have the opportunity to enter the workplace to hone your knowledge and skills, while also exploring the career path you may want to pursue after graduation.

You will also become part of a pool of graduates that is in significant demand across many industries for their problem-solving abilities, clear analytical thought processes and capacity for logical argument.

As a student in Aberystwyth, you will be taught the essential disciplines of algebra, calculus and mathematical analysis. As your interests develop, you may then select further classes from a broad range of topics in mathematics and statistics. We will help you to apply for and prepare for your year in industry. Want to feel needed? This is one of the most flexible degrees of all and with so much of modern work being based on data, there are options everywhere for maths graduates. With all that training in handling figures, it's hardly surprising that a lot of maths graduates go into well-paid jobs in the IT or finance industries, and last year, a maths graduate in London could expect a very respectable average starting salary of £27k. And we're always short of teachers in maths, so that is an excellent option for anyone wanting to help the next generation. And if you want a research job, you'll want a doctorate — and a really good maths doctorate will get you all sorts of interest from academia and finance — and might secure some of the highest salaries going for new leavers from university.
