What is GuildHE?

GuildHE is a member organisation that certain universities and colleges group together under. It particularly represents institutions specialising in art and design, teacher training, agriculture, music and drama.

Like the Russell Group, GuildHE is an organisation that universities and colleges can choose to become a member of.

Along with representing its member institutions, GuildHE also works to develop policy and lobby government on higher education issues.

What other university groups are there?

The 1994 Group and the Russell Group are associated with research, while Million+ is a public policy think tank made up of universities, many of whom were former polytechnics before 1992 and who have traditionally focused more on vocational (work-related) education.

There is also University Alliance, and UKADIA, which represents some specialist arts colleges. Some universities choose not to be part of any group – and this shouldn’t be viewed negatively.
