Personal Statement - Event Management 002

This is a real Event management personal statement written by a student for their university application to University of Chester, Manchester Metropolitan University and The Manchester College. It has been carefully edited into the new three-question format, with all of the original wording kept. It may have strengths and weaknesses, but it can be used as inspiration for writing your own UCAS personal statement. Ensure your personal statement is entirely your own work, copying from this example or other sources is considered plagiarism and can affect your application. There are lots more examples in our collection of sample personal statements.

Why do you want to study this course or subject?

There has become an increasing demand in recent years for Event Managers to organise many kinds of events. Events management ranges from small local events to nationwide conferences and with the London 2012 Olympic Games on the horizon; the sector is expected to continue to grow. My interest in studying Events Management first began at a young age; I have always had an interest in the operation and running of events. Then, during a work experience placement at the Ramada Hotel my interest began to grow. My desire is to continue my studies into higher education to equip me with the necessary knowledge and qualifications to begin a successful career in the events industry. I have learnt that there is a wide range of employment options in the industry and feel that this course will give me the opportunity to experience the different sectors.

How have your qualifications and studies helped you to prepare for this course or subject?

I thoroughly enjoyed studying the Travel and Tourism course; in particular I found the module on marketing very interesting, as this gave me an insight into the business side of the sector. The module entitled 'How the Airport Sector Works' gave me the opportunity to study and gain knowledge on the vast range of employment options, as well as an in-depth view at the major airports in the UK, and I believe this interest was reflected in my final marks. During my time at sixth form my confidence and interpersonal skills were enhanced and I now wish to develop these skills further and succeed at a higher level of education. I am a hard working, committed and punctual student, with proven experience in working under stressful conditions and meeting deadlines. Above all, I am determined to succeed and finish everything. Predominately, sixth form has taught me how to be responsible and mature in my studies to develop as an adult learner.

What else have you done to prepare outside of education, and why are these experiences useful?

Being a spectator and participator in sport as well as studying for my A Levels meant my time management skills were tested. I succeeded through prioritising my work; meeting course deadlines, leaving me time to socialise. These time management skills would be of great benefit in a higher education setting and I am tremendously committed to completing a degree in my chosen field.

AI generated feedback

This feedback is AI-generated, based on the text of this personal statement:

This personal statement clearly demonstrates a genuine interest in event management and includes relevant work experience, which strengthens the application. The applicant effectively links qualifications such as Travel and Tourism to their chosen course, providing insight into industry understanding. To improve, the statement could include more specific examples of skills gained during the work placement or personal achievements related to event management. Additionally, expanding on how extracurricular activities beyond sport might develop transferable skills (e.g., leadership or teamwork) would provide a more rounded perspective. Overall, it is a focused statement that aligns well with requirements for 2026 and beyond, with room to deepen detail and personal reflection.

How personal statements have changed?

The current personal statement format, with three 'scaffolding' questions, was introduced by Ucas in September 2025. This personal statement was submitted before then, using the old essay-style format. It has been carefully edited into the three-question format, with all of the original wording kept.
