Personal Statement:Nursing 4

This is a real Nursing personal statement written by a student for their university application. It has been carefully edited into the new three-question format, with all of the original wording kept. It may have strengths and weaknesses, but it can be used as inspiration for writing your own UCAS personal statement. Ensure your personal statement is entirely your own work, copying from this example or other sources is considered plagiarism and can affect your application. There are lots more examples in our collection of sample personal statements.

Why do you want to study this course or subject?

My chosen courses to apply for study are BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing and Paramedic Science and BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science. I have chosen these courses for many reasons. At first I was heading towards a forensic science course and have studied at great length in this field from books (such as Hidden Evidence by Thomas T. Noguchi), programmes, the latest technology and by keeping up to date with world affairs. I then felt I was more interested in the biological side of my studies in particular the 'Human Health and Diseases' module I completed.

On occasions I have attended the two local Leicester hospitals with my mother, to get a feel of the hospital environment.

I have attended open days at universities, and was quite excited at the prospect of being able to learn in this environment, and could see myself in a biological/medical profession in the future.

It must be said that in particular my Biology lessons inspired me to follow this particular course, as I find learning about living things and how they function in general, really motivating.

How have your qualifications and studies helped you to prepare for this course or subject?

In law lessons I have carried out presentations and role plays which I enjoyed and found very vocational. I found doing this helped me to communicate with large groups of people, but also I was able to listen to the views of other people.

With my Mathematics studies I also enjoy the challenge of problem solving, and got on very well with numerical work as I found it rewarding especially when a particularly difficult problem was solved.

I try to interpret a lot of my knowledge gained from my education in my job, as I work for a large company as an account application assessor. I have to be extremely accurate and also very aware of the Data Protection Act. The job also demands a large amount of trust. I need to have a mature outlook and take responsibility for my actions as they involve decisions that will affect the choices of many customers.

Between leaving college and starting my university degree, I decided to spend a year working full time, so I could successfully complete training courses, 'Next plc' provided to achieve the highest grade in customer service and to really get into my role as a Customer Services Adviser. This would also help me to gain experience that I will find useful in the future and to learn more about the world of work.

What else have you done to prepare outside of education, and why are these experiences useful?

I have completed many charity events, 'the walk of life' for Rainbows Hospice, sponsored famine events and I also attended my local Red Cross and an after school church group. In 1998 I was baptized as a catholic and I try to attend church as often as I can.

I have played the Cello for seven years and played in front chair at DeMonfort Hall on three occasions. I attend the local gym frequently as I enjoy swimming, yoga, working out and long walks.

I would also say I'm quite adventurous and love to travel, I have seen parts of the world when I have a break. I love to learn about other cultures and ways of life and to see historical sites and at present have been to parts of America and Europe, but now I have planed to visit the Caribbean in May and Australia later on this year.

AI generated feedback

This feedback is AI-generated, based on the text of this personal statement:

This personal statement effectively covers motivation, academic preparation, and additional experiences relevant to nursing and related healthcare courses. The applicant shows genuine interest and inspiration from specific biology topics, as well as valuable transferable skills from law and mathematics studies. To strengthen the statement further, the applicant could elaborate more specifically on how their studies directly relate to nursing and biomedical science and clarify how certain experiences, like charity work and musical pursuits, develop skills pertinent to healthcare. Including more reflection on why adult nursing and paramedic science particularly appeal versus other biomedical paths would also make the motivation clearer. Overall, the statement is authentic and personal, but incorporating more focused links between experiences and the chosen courses will enhance its impact for 2026 and beyond.

How personal statements have changed?

The current personal statement format, with three 'scaffolding' questions, was introduced by Ucas in September 2025. This personal statement was submitted before then, using the old essay-style format. It has been carefully edited into the three-question format, with all of the original wording kept.
