More top tips

University throws a number of surprises your way and the unexpected is often exciting and rewarding. Unfortunately there are also things you’d have wish you’d known, but don’t worry, here’s some sound advice to ensure your uni years go smoothly...

Make the most of it

Three years may seem like a long time, though in perspective it’s a small portion of your life. That doesn’t take anything away from its importance, though, so make the most of your time at university. There are always amazing societies to join, people to meet and places to see.

Independent living

University is all about independence – whether it’s learning or looking after yourself – so ask your parents for some pointers. They shouldn’t mind if you help out with the cooking!

Independent learning

With no more teachers or parents peering over your shoulder, the key to university is self-motivation. Have assignment deadlines written down and plan ahead to make sure you meet these. Make the most of tutor office hours – if you’re struggling with a unit, your lecturers will put any worries to ease. Using the library will offer a distraction-free, quiet zone to help your concentration when tackling assignments.
