Therapeutic imaging

The BSc (Hons) Radiography (Radiotherapy and Oncology) degree provides a route into a rewarding career as a therapeutic radiographer.

One in two of the population will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and so radiotherapy treatment, which uses high energy x-rays to treat tumours, has never been more important. Up to a third of people with cancer will need radiotherapy and will rely on people like you to provide it.

Studying the BSc (Hons) Radiography (Radiotherapy and Oncology) course will equip you with all the skills and knowledge you need to become a fully qualified therapeutic radiographer and you’ll develop the ability to think critically, analyse data, evaluate treatments and empathise with the patients in your care.

On completion of the course, you will have the ability to synthesise evidence from current practice and research to develop in-depth critical knowledge and understanding of the therapeutic profession.
This BSc (Hons) Radiography (Radiotherapy and Oncology) course will enable you to learn how to work under pressure using advanced equipment, and make split-second critical decisions.

This course is accredited by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) for eligibility to apply for registration.

Year 1 - Professional Practice and Patient Care, Radiation Physics, Anatomy and Physiology for the Radiographer, Research Skills and Principles, Equipment of Radiotherapy, Oncology 1, Introduction to Radiobiology.

Year 2 - Professional Practice and Wellbeing, Planning and Dosimetry, Radiographic Anatomy, Research Methods, Oncology 2, Healthcare Policy and Quality Management, Further Radiobiology.

Year 3 - Professional Practice and Clinical Confidence, Advanced Planning and Dosimetry, Advances in Radiotherapy, Research Dissertation, Oncology 3.

Assessment methods

On the completion of topics, you will be supported through interactive quizzes and shown example assignments to focus your critical evaluation and knowledge retention.

Formal assessments take the form of practical exams undertaken in the clinical environment on placement, together with a competency record and placement logbook.

Academic understanding and knowledge are confirmed through written assignments and computer-based short question exams.
