About this course
Geography is the subject of our time, dynamic and constantly evolving as the world around us changes. Geographers focus on key global challenges and work on developing solutions. A Geography degree will ensure you can make a difference in the 21st century.
This degree is accredited by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), so you can be sure your programme comprises what is expected of a Geography graduate.
You will have the opportunity to study a broad range of human, physical and environmental topics. In Years 2 and 3 you have increasing choice so you can specialise in the physical/environmental topics that interest you most. Our staff will share their passion for the subject and their knowledge with you.
Our modules reflect staff interests, and topics may include:

· Rivers and Catchment Management,
· Environmental Change,
· Glaciation,
· Environmental Modelling,
· Sustainability,
· Renewable Energy, and
· Governance.
At Bangor, many of our modules offer regular half and full-day field trips, taking advantage of our unique location, which is set against the backdrop of the dramatic north Wales coastline, Menai Strait, and the mountains of Snowdonia National Park. We provide fieldwork opportunities in north Wales (Yr1) and SW England (Yr2) included in the tuition fee. In Year 3, there is the option to go overseas to Tenerife or Barcelona. We offer funds to help with fieldwork costs.
You will become well-trained in a range of research methods (field and laboratory). You will acquire specialised technical and practical skills (Geographical Information Systems (GIS), IT, Statistics), as well as transferrable and professional skills (leadership, team player, communicator). During your final year you will conduct your own research project, under staff guidance, allowing you to showcase your abilities developed throughout your studies.
Our graduates have gone on to work as: environmental consultants, town/emergency planners, teachers, surveyors, sustainability/recycling officers, data analysts, or GIS officers/cartographers, or take on roles in business, finance, human resources, marketing, PR and sales.
You can boost your employability with an optional work placement, through our Professional Placement module. You can also gain international experience by studying (at one of our partner institutions) or working abroad as part of your degree, with our International Experience Year.
If you are interested in undertaking a work experience placement, then you might want to consider our related course Geography with a placement year (F806). The course is identical to this course, but you will spend your third year undertaking a work-based placement. If your interests are more focused on the human side of the discipline you might consider our sister course BA Geography (L700). If you want to specialise in physical geography, then our companion course BSc. Physical Geography and Oceanography (F840) might appeal, or if you have more of an interest in the environment you could consider our BSc Geography with Environmental Forestry (F803 or F804) course.
