Here's what Bedford College Group says about its Creative Media Production (Film) course.

The Creative Media Production (Film) HNC course aims to provide learners with a clear insight into the media industry. Throughout the course learners are able to develop a range of skills such as academic writing and research, along with a plethora of practical skills such as camerawork, video editing, audio recording, lighting, etc. The purpose of the course is to prepare learners for working in the industry through projects based on working practices and professional processes such as working with a client.

Alongside the practical elements of the course we encourage and teach theoretical practices, theories, research and academic skills, and students will find they develop both creative and analytical thinking whilst on the course.

The intention of the course is to get our students industry ready and our projects reflect this. We encourage working collaboratively and working with external professionals where we can, to help give our students a better insight into industry working. The projects you undertake will result in a range of different media products such as short films, news reports and a television series pilot episode.

This course is ideal for any individual hoping to develop a range of media production skills and pursue a career within the media industry.

The Creative Media Production (Film) HND course aims to provide learners with a clear insight into the media industry. As this is the second year of the course learners will pursue more specialized avenues and develop further skills in these areas. The intention of this academic year is to fully prepare learners for the industry by treating them as industry professionals and encouraging more engagement with clients and other collaborators. Practical skills will be revised and more specialized techniques will be delivered.

You will also continue to build on academic skills such as research and academic writing, but students at this level are expected to work more independently, which again is something reflective of the real industry. There are also opportunities to learn more in depth theoretical approaches to film and develop more specific skills such as writing for the media.

Many students choose to follow up the HND course with a top up year at University, but you would have the necessary skills upon completion of the HND course to enter the media industry and find a suitable career.

The media industry has become a hugely impactful and relevant part of our lives and the more time passes the more reliant we become on the media industry to keep us informed, entertaining and connected. Studying media is beneficial as it gives you a much deeper insight into how the industry operates, how media products are created and how to effectively reach an audience.

Students will be able to keep on top of the ever changing media industry whilst on the course and will be able to track the progression of modern technology as well. As the media has spread and become a much more utilised tool there is a much wider range of job opportunities related to media now available.

Many industries outside of the media industry still use relevant media skills such as social media and promotion in order to market their companies/services and this means studying this course will give you a range of transferrable skills that you can apply to a range of different industries, not just the media industry, meaning our students leave us with a fantastic skillset which will benefit them greatly when pursuing a career.
