A maximum of three subjects are considered. Other 6-unit qualifications can be considered in lieu of one or two A-level subjects. excluded subjects General Studies and Critical Thinking

60 credits overall - 15 credits at level 2 and 45 credits at level 3 Arts, Media and Publishing subjects preferred but other subjects also considered.

Must be in a topic related to the degree subject being applied for. Points achieved may be considered if applicant is falling short on A-Level points. Cannot be offered as a standalone qualification.

GCSE English Language grade 4. Equivalent qualifications can be considered in lieu of GCSE subjects as long as the required subject are covered refer to tutor Must have been achieved at the point of application City and Guilds Level 2 Certificates in Adult Numeracy/ Adult Literacy Functional Skills/ Essential Skills level 2 - English Key Skills level 2 - Communication Must have been achieved at the point of application

Obtain a minimum of 24 points overall. For students who do not already hold a GCSE in English Language at Grade C/4 or above Standard Level English Language (not literature) Group A English Group A - Grade 4 or above, OR English Group B - Grade 5 or above from the IB will be accepted. Students who do not complete the IB Diploma and who achieve the minimum of 11 points from two Higher Level subjects, will be considered on the basis of their IB Certificates.

Pass the Irish Leaving Certificate with a minimum of 80 tariff points, achieved in four Higher level subjects. This must include English Language taken at either Ordinary level (minimum grade O1-O4 (or A-C/A1-C3)) or Higher level (minimum grade H5/D1).

This four year programme has been specifically designed to allow students who do not initially meet the entry requirements for a three year degree, to undertake additional level 3 study designed to ensure they are successful on their chosen degree programme.

After successful completion of your foundation year, you will have the flexibility to switch (should you wish to change direction) onto a number of related undergraduate degree programmes within Birmingham School of Media.

This programme offers students the opportunity to develop creative and practical skills in media production. Students will work on projects in radio, television and online production, supported by staff with industry experience and visiting speakers from the world of media. Students will develop a critical understanding of creative production and digital storytelling techniques. They will work collaboratively on projects and produce a professional portfolio of work. On completion of the course students will be able to progress on to a media or media-related degree.

We are a pioneering institution, delivering some of the first UK media degrees. The BA (Hons) Media and Communication is a dynamic course that gives you a choice of from a range of modules to complement your radio specialism, including music industries, TV and journalism, allowing you to mould your course to suit your future ambitions.

With a strong emphasis on mirroring the workflow of the industry in our purpose-built media centre, we offer practical, professional preparation for a rewarding career.

What's covered in the course?

Helped by strong links with many influential media organisations, the course offers an industry-relevant blend of production, theory and professional studies..

Teaching takes place in our suite of radio studios and audio production suites, as well the TV and photography studios and editing suites depending on the modules you choose. This is in addition to the lecture theatres, seminar rooms, social learning spaces and online learning you would expect to find. You use blogs, create wikis, and employ social media channels and other interactive media to support your work and self-development.

Enjoy the flexibility to opt for a general study of Media and Communication, or a specialist route in Radio, Television, Web and New Media, Journalism, Event and Exhibition Industries, Music Industries or Public Relations. You will benefit from at least two industry placements providing you with insight and contacts. We provide specialised, sophisticated equipment for every area in our £62 million home in the city centre, including six radio studios, four TV studios, the largest free-standing green screen in Europe, editing suites, music production studios and photography studios (including a half and a full infinity cove). Students will use blogs, create wikis and other interactive media to support their work and self-development.

All staff at the School are established media professionals who bring with them a range of expertise. They are able to recognise and respond to the rapidly changing demands of the media, ensuring that the course remains relevant to the industry.
