Property development

BA(Hons) Property Development and Planning will give you a solid understanding of the concepts and requirements of urban planning and sustainable development.
This course is accredited by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). If you choose the three-year degree or sandwich course, you’ll meet the RICS’ educational requirements to become an accredited member.

Study the legal system and economic forces and their impact on creating healthy, sustainable communities. Learn about property valuation, landlord and tenant law and building construction.

Learn computer-assisted design (CAD), drawing, modelling and mapping. Assess urban design on day trips and residential field trips. Collaborate with students across related disciplines in an approach reflecting industry.

Our key employer partners are involved throughout the course, providing you with industry knowledge, placements and recruitment advice to improve your employability on graduation. Attend regular presentations from visiting practitioners and guest lecturers so you can learn about industry challenges and best practice.

As a graduate, you’ll be ready for a career working in development and urban regeneration. Opportunities are available with property developers, surveyors, planning and multi-disciplinary practices, local authorities and development agencies in the UK and abroad. Past students have found roles with Savills, Hartnell Taylor Cook and Redrow Homes.

Building graduates make excellent surveyors, and that's currently one of the jobs that employers find hardest to fill, so there are great opportunities available of you want to try your hand at a surveying career.
