Subject

Human resource management

People are at the heart of any business or organisation. Our Foundation Year course offers an alternative entry to higher education and prepares you for a career in human resource management.

Our Human Resource Management with Foundation Year course covers all the areas of people management in organisations, including employee recruitment & selection, employee learning & development, reward and performance management.

You'll develop a breadth of knowledge in a range of subjects that impact directly on all areas of business performance and competitiveness. You'll also gain an understanding of leadership and how the behaviours of individuals and teams contribute to the success of organisations.

Professional accreditation
The Business School recognises the importance of professional body accreditation, to ensure that not only do we deliver well researched courses, but also that our students meet the professional expectations of prospective employers and have the opportunity to gain professional body qualifications. This includes modules accredited by the Association of Project Management (APM). Our Project Management module was the first from a university to gain accreditation and exemption for its teaching and assessment. The Business School has accreditation with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and students enrolling on to this programme automatically gain student membership of the CMI.

Location
This course is run at our Canterbury Campus in Kent. Canterbury is just 50 miles south-east of London and less than an hour by high-speed train from St Pancras. Located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site the campus offers state-of-the-art buildings, right in the centre of a vibrant and world-famous cathedral city. You’ll benefit from a campus with excellent learning and teaching resources, music venues, a superb sports centre, a well-stocked bookshop and plenty of coffee bars and places to eat. A short walk away is Augustine House our award-winning library and home to a vast range of learning resources and student support teams.

This subject is much more common at postgraduate level, and so be aware that many of the good jobs in HR and personnel management go to graduates with Masters or other postgraduate qualifications in this subject. Work experience for first degree graduates can help to get around the lack of postgraduate qualifications, but if you want to go into management you might find that Masters to be an advantage. Although human resource roles are much the most common outcome for graduates from these courses, they take those jobs in an impressive array of industries so there are plenty of options for the kind of employer you can work for. If you would like to know about graduate prospects for your chosen course more specifically, head to an open day to talk to tutors about what previous graduates went on to do.

What about your long term prospects?

Looking further ahead, below is a rough guide for what graduates went on to earn.
