About this course
An alternative approach to gaining a qualifying Law degree is to study on one of our ‘Law with’ degrees. These share the same core Law components as the LLB Single Honours but allow you to study another subject alongside Law to gain different insights and experience to build your own career pathway. Study Law with History and join a challenging, vibrant and friendly community, led by an experienced team of academics, practitioners, solicitors, barristers and international lawyers. This original and innovative course has been designed in consultation with senior managers to give you both a theoretical and practical experience. As part of your degree, you will have the option to get involved with practical justice including opportunities to shadow a local judge and experience live mediations from our in-house Medication Clinic.
Through our strong links with the local community, Citizens Advice, and local courts, you will have the opportunity to act as a Community Legal Companion for unrepresented parties at court. This is an excellent opportunity for you to gain hands-on work experience in a legal setting.

Top job areas of graduates
Law graduates tend to go into the legal industry, and they usually take similar routes. Jobs are competitive — often very competitive - but starting salaries are good and high fliers can earn serious money - starting on over £24k in London on average. Be aware though - some careers, especially as barristers, can take a while to get into, and the industry is changing as the Internet, automation and economic change all have an effect, If you want to qualify to practise law, you need to take a professional qualification — many law graduates then go on to law school. If you want to go into work, then a lot of law graduates take trainee or paralegal roles and some do leave the law altogether, often for jobs in management, finance and the police force. A small proportion of law graduates also move into another field for further study. Management, accountancy and teaching are all popular for these career changers, so if you do take a law degree and decide it’s not for you, there are options.

Top job areas of graduates
History is a very popular subject (although numbers have fallen of late) — in 2015, over 10,000 UK students graduated in a history-related course. Obviously, there aren't 11,000 jobs as historians available every year, but history is a good, flexible degree that allows graduates to go into a wide range of different jobs, and consequently history graduates have an unemployment rate comparable to the national graduate average. Many — probably most — jobs for graduates don't ask for a particular degree to go into them and history graduates are well set to take advantage. That's why so many go into jobs in the finance industry, human resources, marketing, PR and events management, as well as the more obvious roles in education, welfare and the arts. Around one in five history graduates went into further study last year. History and teaching were the most popular further study subjects for history graduates, but law, journalism, and politics were also popular postgraduate courses.
