**Sport & Exercise Science**

Explore the science behind sports performance and physical activity under the guidance of a dynamic team of research-active staff. You will study a range of topics, all with an emphasis on real-life application. Choose from pathways in sport and exercise sciences, competitive sport performance or exercise and health outcomes. Our labs give you the opportunity to measure and assess physical activity in athletes. You can also gain experience in our consultancy service, SportsLab, using your knowledge to help athletes improve their performance.

**Tourism Studies**

Home of the Canterbury Tales and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Canterbury is an ideal location for Tourism Studies. You’ll gain specialist knowledge from experienced staff, passionate about their teaching and discover themes including dark tourism, film tourism and sustainability. Lectures and seminars are supported by a wealth of industry speakers and site visits. You will also have the chance to go on field trips abroad in years one and two, the costs of which are already included in your fees. You will be offered work experience/internships and can take advantage of our exciting Tourism and Events Research Hub, which has a reputation for winning successful research grants.

One of the fastest growing subjects in the country, the number of sports science graduates went from under 3,000 in 2003 to over 10,000 in 2013. Numbers have fallen slightly since 2015, but we still have over 9,000 graduates in the subject. However, the good news is the country's appetite for good health and fitness - and the adaptability of graduates in the subject - means that sports science grads are less likely than average to be out of work. Sports science graduates, not surprisingly, tend to get jobs in sport, fitness and health - coaching and teaching especially - but they're found all over the economy. Management and business are also popular options for graduates from this subject — and sports science graduates are particularly found where drive, determination and physical fitness are an advantage.

This course sits in a wide group of smaller subjects that don't necessarily have that much in common - so bear this in mind when you look at any employment data. Most graduates took a hospitality, events management or tourism-related course, but there are a group of sports and leisure graduates in here as well who do different things.
