Here's what Cardiff Metropolitan University says about its PR and Marketing Management (with Foundation Year) course.

This is a four-year programme that includes a year of foundational study and leads directly into the degree course. Our foundation year offers the chance to strengthen your skills, knowledge and confidence, before you advance to stage one of your honours degree.

Developed with and accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), our BA (Hons) Public Relations (PR) and Marketing Management degree at Cardiff Met ensures you gain the latest industry knowledge and practical skills with our industry-aligned curriculum. Our CIM ‘Accredited Degree’ status also provides you with the opportunity to gain exemptions from CIM Certificate and Diploma in Professional and Digital Marketing qualifications.

Designed to develop strategic communicators, our degree offers a blend of marketing management theory combined with specialist PR expertise. PR and Marketing are closely connected and work together to make sure everyone’s talking about a brand for all the right reasons.

Learn how to successfully manage the reputation of a brand, build strong relationships with stakeholders and deliver consistent and compelling messages across various marketing and communications channels to build trust and brand recognition. Plus, we’ll provide you with the latest tools and techniques in crisis management to protect and restore a brand’s reputation.

You will also develop the adaptability and strategic thinking skills essential for senior management roles within the PR and marketing industry, ensuring you are industry ready and resilient to tackle the ever-changing market demands.

Get hands-on with specialist industry software and put theory into practice during your Public Relations in Practice module in your second year. Our lecturers, who are both research-active and industry-experienced, will teach you the key skills you need for the workplace after graduation.

You will have the opportunity to join our CIM Student chapter to engage in creative and entrepreneurial activities. Take on the global CIM The Pitch competition and tackle a real-life marketing challenge set by a leading charity, where top finalists get the chance to pitch their ideas directly to the client.

We offer this degree with two study options. You can choose four years full-time or five years full-time which would include a one-year industry placement before your final year that will give you hands-on experience in a real-life working environment. This year in industry gives you practical skills that many employers seek, giving you a competitive edge upon graduation.

University accommodation is excellent but is only available for the first year. There are wardens available 24 hours a day if there is anything you may need in an emergency and cleaners who come once a week. The libraries are okay. They are quite small, but there are plenty of places outside the lib...

I feel it is a very unique course that you are unlikely to find at another university. If you aspire to work and support those with special needs or vulnerable backgrounds, it's a great course that allows you in the second year to explore topic areas more in your internet areas.
