Here's what Cardiff University says about its Electrical and Electronic Engineering course.

Overview and aims of the Programme

Electrical and electronic engineers work at the forefront of technology, developing and improving the devices and systems we use every day. Electrical engineers deal with the generation, distribution and control of power, whereas electronic engineers create devices such as sensors and mobile phones.

This accredited course provides the knowledge, skills and hands-on experience you need to become a work-ready engineer. Through laboratory sessions and a range of practical activities, you will embed the knowledge from your lectures and tutorials. There are opportunities for you to complete work placements and sponsorships through our connections to industry.

You will explore a range of authentic engineering problems and industry-focused scenarios, both individually and with student engineers from other disciplines. Group work mirrors the relationships of an engineering team and will help you to build professional skills, such as teamwork and communication. Our open access makerspace provides a place for you to design, create and collaborate.

Distinctive Features of the Programme

Professionally accredited course Accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

High student satisfaction Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Cardiff University was ranked 1st of all similar courses in the UK by our students in the National Student Survey 2022.

Industrial links Our course content is informed by collaboration with companies such as RWE Npower, Cogent Power, BT and BAE, and delivered by leading academic staff, many of whom are Chartered Engineers or have worked in industry.

Industry-standard facilities You will have access to designated design studio space, specialist laboratories, workshops, and computer suites.

External scholarships available Students are eligible to apply for external scholarships and summer placements from the UK Power Academy and UK Electronic Skills Foundation UKESF (Cardiff University is a member of both schemes).

Cardiff University open days

Are you thinking of applying to this university?

Before you do, it's a good idea to go to an open day. You can have a good look around campus, getting a better idea of what it's like to study there. You'll meet current students and staff and get the chance to ask them questions.

Universities will list upcoming open days on their websites. Most will also have virtual open days; these are a great alternative if you really can't get there in person. For tips on preparing for open days, check the advice section here on The Uni Guide.
