The HNC Applied Science course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the field of applied science. The course is offered in two pathways, each focusing on specific aspects of applied science, namely Pathway 1: Applied Science (chemistry), and Pathway 2: Applied Science (biology).

The course is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the key principles of applied science, as well as hands-on experience in laboratory-based techniques and methodologies. Students will gain a deep understanding of scientific theory, as well as practical skills in data analysis, experimentation, and laboratory safety. The course will also include modules on professional skills, such as communication, teamwork, and project management, which are essential for success in the scientific workplace.

Assessment methods

Assessment is in accordance with the current Assessment Regulations which operate within the Academic Framework. These are available for students to access via the VLE. It is the student's responsibility to be familiar with and understand these regulations as they apply to all forms of assessment included in the programme. Credit can only be awarded for assessed and demonstrated learning in relation to the learning outcomes of each module of study and the achievement of the standard required for award at each level. The methods of assessment to be used include research and presentation, reports and posters. Students will not be assessed by examination.
