The BSc (Hons) Business with Marketing pathway is delivered by Bayes Business School (formerly Cass), one of Europe’s leading business schools. Part of City, University of London, Bayes is ranked amongst the top 6 business schools in the UK*.

The Business with Marketing pathway provides students with a knowledge of marketing that is grounded in theory and practice.

This degree should appeal particularly to you if you see marketing as being central to an organisation’s strategy and if you are interested in the broad range of activities that fit within the general category of marketing. You will gain a broad understanding of business from a marketing perspective. You will explore the breadth of the marketing function within an organisation and the extent to which it is central to strategy for many businesses. You will study the techniques and approaches used by businesses to build an understanding of their customers and to target their offerings appropriately.

You will learn about a wide range of marketing issues including the marketing mix, consumer behaviour, branding and advertising. The changing nature of marketing will be an important component of your studies. Marketing is covered both by specialist modules and electives that reflect the variety of the marketing function in contemporary businesses and provide an excellent basis on which to enter a career in marketing.

The Business with Marketing pathway will equip you with core and specialised marketing knowledge along with transferable skills that prepare you for a wide range of roles in the marketing industry, such as specialist advertising/publicity business or within the marketing team of a large organisation.
As the only business school in London to be assigned Champion status of the United Nation’s Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative, we are best placed to train the next generation of business leaders capable of managing the complex demands faced by business and society in the 21st century. Our entire suite of undergraduate business management programmes have been created to ensure ethical, social, environmental, cultural, and economic considerations are central to your preparation as future leaders in business.

During your time on the Business with Marketing pathway, we support your professional and personal growth in a number of ways. As well as hosting a series of business networking events at our state-of-the art building, 2nd year students have the opportunity to mentor 1st year Business Management students and GCSE Mathematics pupils across London, ensuring you develop your communication and leadership skills throughout.

The BSc (Hons) Business with Marketing pathway is available as a three-year degree, or four-year degree for those who wish to take up a one-year work placement sandwich option or to take a sandwich year studying abroad. The four-year degree offers excellent opportunities to gain relevant work experience to prepare you for your career, and to make contacts in the world of business. You also have the option to apply for a study abroad sandwich year at one of our highly-respected partner institutions across the world. In an increasingly globalised business environment this is excellent preparation.

There are six BSc Business Management degree pathways taught at Bayes: BSc Business Management, BSc Business with Finance, BSc Business with Marketing, BSc Business Management with Social Purpose, BSc Business Management, Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship and BSc International Business. At any time during the first-one-and-a-half years of the degree, students can switch to a different pathway, subject to the availability of places. Some restrictions may apply if the student is spending part of the second year on a study abroad scheme.

Assessment methods

On the Business with Marketing pathway for undergraduate students, most modules are assessed by a combination of exams and coursework.

The balance of assessment by coursework (assessed essays and assignments) unseen examinations and a final year project will to some extent depend on the optional modules you choose.

The first year of your programme contributes 10% to your final degree classification, the second year 30% and the final year 60%.

The number of business studies graduates fell significantly last year after a long period of increase. But there were still more than 14,000 degrees awarded and this is the third most popular subject for new graduates. Because so many graduates get business studies degrees, you can find them everywhere in the economy, and very few jobs are completely out of reach for a good business studies graduate. Around 40% go into jobs in finance, sales, recruitment, management (particularly retail) or marketing. There is also a small (but well paid) group who take their technical skills into computing and IT. Thousands of graduates from this subject go into professional jobs every year, and average starting salaries are above the average for all subjects and particularly healthy in London where they top £25k. Graduates with good degree grades in business studies are much more likely to get good jobs, so don’t be complacent, and keep a close eye on your grades.

Want to join a fast-moving, diverse industry that's at the cutting edge of tech? Try marketing! A lot of the jobs are in London, but graduates don't just go to work in advertising agencies — all sorts of industries do their own marketing these days, and with the rise of digital and mobile technology, a lot of marketing is done in quite innovative ways using a wide range of methods. Common industries (apart from advertising and PR) include recruitment, online retail, higher education, banking and IT. A lot of jobs in this industry are handled through recruitment agencies, so if you get in touch with them early, that might give you a headstart for some of the jobs available.
