Here's what Coleg Sir Gar says about its Photography course.
This is a Level 4 stand alone qualification that is basically the first year of our Degree Programmes. The course can be studied on a full time basis over one academic year, or part time over two years and will enable those students who are unable to commit to studying for a full BA Honours degree to have an understanding of, and learn the basic skills required in Photography.
Embracing a broad-based visual, conceptual and technical approach that reflects the developments and trends of twenty-first century photographic practice. Course content fully integrates modern digital and analogue technologies with traditional working practices.
Students leave with a portfolio demonstrating personal identity, crucial to securing vocational success and employment, with transferable, specialist, practical skills upon which to base the next phase of their career development.
Well resourced with a range of professional cameras, studio and location lighting for contemporary photography, including dedicated computer resources with industry standard software for professional digital darkroom work, creative image processing and also traditional darkroom with analogue methods of working to reflect renewed interest in silver photography.
Students will have opportunities to explore expressive image making for art practice, whilst also being conscious of the broader potential for a visually orientated society of multimedia consumers, as well as professional photography practice for the freelance and creative industries. A wide breadth of photographic approaches offers opportunities to work in documentary, fashion, editorial and fine art photography, thereby engendering vocational potentials and sustainable employability.

Are you thinking of applying to this university?
Before you do, it's a good idea to go to an open day. You can have a good look around campus, getting a better idea of what it's like to study there. You'll meet current students and staff and get the chance to ask them questions.
Universities will list upcoming open days on their websites. Most will also have virtual open days; these are a great alternative if you really can't get there in person. For tips on preparing for open days, check the advice section here on The Uni Guide.
