We asked more than 11,000 undergraduates to say how far they would describe their uni as having the following characteristics. We carry out this analysis where we have scores from at least 30 students. You can also see whether these ratings are high, medium or low compared to other universities.
We’re sorry, we haven’t been able to speak to enough students get reliable descriptions of this institution yet.
The course is really friendly and all tutors are really nice and approachable, I wish more tutor seminars for illustration practice could be given instead of one every brief. Personal tutors are really nice and are great at responding back to emails, I have no trouble asking for advice and guidance.
It took me a while to settle as I wasn't really into clubbing so freshers was a nightmare really, as you tend to only go with your flatmates. When I started my course and getting to know people I settled in quicker and found a group of people on my course that just liked going to a pub for drinks. The friends I've made on the course defiantly helped smoothed things out as there is a good mixture of people from in and out of Derbyshire
The cleaners don't clean the hobs and none of the flatmates are keen to clean it so you're cooking around moldy food. I don't think the cleaners should clean every little thing but just going around the Hobs with a soapy sponge would help. Yeah he location if my halls is really close to town and my campuses being a 15 minute walk each way. Princess Alice court is the cheapest accomadtions as you have to share facieltys like bathrooms and showers so there can sometimes be a queue in the morning. All the RA's are really friendly and helpful. There is a massive problem with silverfish though.
The uni has a whole range of society's for everyone and really friendly sport society's that anyone can join. Some society's are a bit pricey as I was interested in joint the horse riding society but it was £20 a week for an hour plus taxi money to get to the stables!! The main campus keddleston holds some really good club nights in freshers and the new cafe opened on Bridge street also holds some good student nights. There are shops on both campuses for small things you need like milk, coffee etc. All services given by the uni are really helpful and friendly. The uni holds student nights outside of campus in other clubs which are known as 'mummy ducky' if you're into that, but there is also a good range of clubs for whatever you're into.
Marketon Street campus is a really nice walk as you pass the river as I always like looking at the swans and birds for inspiration in my art work. Britianna Mill is also a really lovely campus overvieing the Marketon park.
I have enjoyed my first semester here and enjoying currently my second term. I feel that the midlands is a lot friendly then compared down south. If you're not use to big city's then you'll fine some things quiet shocking or new but if you love town life and a really friendly, spacious uni then I would highly recommended derby. Being really close to Nottingham you can easily get a bus there if the derby life gets a bit boring. The personal tutor scheme is really helpful and coming from another well known and quiet highly rated arts university the extra support really does make the difference compared to previously when there really wasn't much.
