The BA (Hons) is an exciting and innovative award winning degree aimed at getting you work in the music industry as an engineer, producer, recording artist or publisher.
You will have access to all 8 recording studios, housing the latest cutting-edge creative recording technology for sound engineering, recording, and audio-visual based production work.
The modules are designed to prepare you for work in the music industry. In year one, you will take part in skills based workshops including; Multi-track Recording, The Lyricist Composer & Producer, and the Live event.
In year two you will explore Film & TV Soundtracks, Entrepreneurial Practice and create Career Showcase.
In the final year of your degree programme you will expand your existing knowledge and explore the mix of creativity and technology before focusing on a specific industry related field in the form of a final Major Production Project.
Throughout the programme of study students you will be supported in research and experimentation and to work on your projects with ever increasing independence. You will be encouraged to reflect on a variety of issues, including those of a social, cultural or historical nature and let these inform your work where appropriate. The aim is to produce graduates who are competent in their area of expertise, aware of their creative potential, strengthened as individuals and critical thinkers and ready to enter industry as informed practitioners.
You will be assessed throughout your course, completing 120 credits each year as coursework. This is paced throughout the year to help you balance your workload, and the time you spend studying.
What can I do after completing this course? The course emphasises the various contexts of music 'use' and prepares you to work in may related fields e.g. record release; television; film; video; performance; computer games and advertising. You will be introduced to a range of techniques and methodologies enabling you to achieve your own goals. In addition, the course employs work-related scenarios where you will actively work as an independent record label and as a live event promoter. The course recognises the entrepreneurial nature of the industry and enables students to produce career-specific individual business plans, showcase recordings and audio-visual products. Alternatively, once completed, you can continue your studies at Masters level.
In 2024 we were awarded an exceptional 94% National Student Survey (NSS) rating. Every university in the UK takes part in the NSS, as do many colleges. This survey gathers students’ opinions on the quality of their courses which helps to inform prospective students’ choices and provide data that supports universities and colleges to improve the student experience. East Sussex College University Courses is very proud of our extremely high score. The NSS is managed by the OfS on behalf of the UK funding and regulatory bodies.
