This programme is for theatre artists who want to design and deliver innovative work through technical practice, creative vision and technological confidence.
Goldsmiths is famous for producing theatre practitioners who have agency and critical capacity. Our design and technician staff team are artists, innovators and researchers in their own right.
Studying with us makes you ready for work in the existing theatre and screen industries, but we also equip you to create, innovate, and initiate change, in your own right as technicians and artists.
You'll take classes in ensemble performance, scenography, theatre-making, plus small-group coaching with a technical specialist in lighting, sound design, set, scenography and objects, stage management and costume design and production.
Your learning experience will benefit from a more recent appreciation and diversification of what design and technical practice can do for theatre and creative industry events more generally.

Year 1 In your first year, you'll study to following compulsory modules: Ideas in Practice Introduction to Dramaturgy Practitioner in Context I: Technical Skills Scenography Theatre Making 1 The Ensemble Creative-Critical Project
Year 2 In your second year, you'll take the following compulsory modules: Questions of Performance Technical Theatre and Design Case Study Theatre Making 2 Practitioner in Context II: Departmental Placement
You will also choose one of the following modules: Global Theatre Histories or The Goldsmiths Elective or Modernisms and Postmodernity A
Year 3 In your final year, you'll take the following compulsory modules: Theatre Making 3: Laboratory Theatre Making 3: Projects Practitioner in Context III: Industry Preparation and Placement Independent Research Project Research Methodologies
You will be assessed through a variety of methods, including essays, formal written examinations, practical projects, workshops, group performances, assessed rehearsals, group practice presentations as well as full productions, independent research projects, portfolios, and seminar presentations.

Clubs and societies were not very varied and difficult to join. Otherwise the SU was good.

On the whole the area was good and had lots of events going on to attend, however the daytime campus life was not very exciting and at night the area sometimes felt dangerous with lots of fights happening on the streets.

On the whole the library and campus facilities were good, however the food was so expensive and my accommodation was not good. Even though I was given early acceptance I didn't get my first choice of halls, and the place I did live was run down and the fire alarm was set off by students every night ...

I enjoyed a lot of the course content and lectures, however I found some of the seminars were not useful. I also felt that it was not very personalised, I don't think any lecturers or seminar leaders knew me by name and rarely gave detailed feedback on my work.
