This multidisciplinary Single Honours course enables you to integrate many branches of biomedical science to understand the molecular mechanisms of
human health and disease. Clinical scenarios used in case-based learning and interprofessional education opportunities will help you to integrate taught
material with your independent study, strengthening your lifelong learning skills. At Keele, you’ll develop a deep appreciation of human disorders and diseases from a scientific and an NHS Pathology practitioner’s perspective. Your studies will integrate human physiology, biochemistry, immunology, neuroscience and molecular and cell biology, benefiting from research-led teaching and the input of professionals at the Royal Stoke University Hospital’s Pathology Department. You’ll have opportunities to develop independent research skills through your final year experimental research project. Placement opportunities may include a one-year work placement or a summer’s research in the UK or abroad or you could apply for selection onto the Applied Biomedical Science degree, which includes a hospital pathology laboratory placement.

Your Biomedical Science degree from Keele will prepare you to work in high-tech hospital laboratories in the NHS or private sector, but you might also work in consultancy, research, education or management. You might follow a career as a biomedical scientist in the haematology, clinical biochemistry, immunology, microbiology or histopathology sections of Pathology. Alternatively, you might branch out into patent law, medical sales or teaching or build on your Biomedical Science degree to study for other healthcare professional careers such as medicine. Completing a placement as part of a degree will add invaluable work
experience onto your CV. You could also expand your CV by taking our 4-year degree with an International Year studying abroad in, for example,
North America.
