The Science Foundation Year provides students with the opportunity to study, in a university setting, the skills and subject knowledge required to progress to a wide range of science degrees. This course provides a scientific background customised to your needs as well as enhanced study skills. A choice of modules is available from the life, physical, geographical and environmental sciences; mathematics; computing and psychology.

After you have completed your Science Foundation Year, you could progress on to the Computer Science degree. Our excellent central location is ideal for industrial placements, with over 40 companies situated on the Keele Science Park alone.

In a mixture of interactive lectures and computer lab based sessions, you’ll learn to use technology to create new opportunities and to solve a wide range of problems, benefiting every aspect of society from the home to business, government and beyond. Our teaching is informed by our cutting- edge research, and also reflects what’s happening now in industry. This includes areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer games development, human-computer interaction, software engineering, web development, mobile application development, evolutionary systems and cybersecurity. Combined Honours students can follow a set of modules providing a specialism in information systems, smart systems, or creative computing, whilst Single Honours students cover all these strands. There’s a strong emphasis on programming – but don’t worry if you don’t have Mathematics A Level, because the course covers what you need to know.
