The Forensic and Analytical Investigation course is designed to enable you to graduate, at master’s level, as a laboratory scientist with a broad range of potential career paths. You will have access to our dedicated Crime Scene House and be taught by a range of academics and industry professionals. Forensic Science at Keele has been ranked No.1 in England by the Complete University Guide 2020.
This four year undergraduate master’s course will provide you with a broad education in the core areas of forensic science and investigation. You will gain an in-depth theoretical and practical understanding of those analytical techniques that are of particular importance, not only to the analysis of forensic evidence, but also to industry in general. Your studies will focus on key topics in forensic chemistry, analytical science, forensic biology and criminalistic science. This is complemented by the study of the overarching forensic process, from the crime scene to the court, with additional emphasis on professional practice and an understanding of the roles of the crime scene investigator and the forensic scientist as an expert witness in the court. You will gain a wide variety of skills that will enable you to work independently. In addition to the laboratory skills you will develop, you will also gain many transferable skills that are valued by employers, including team working, communication and problem-solving skills. Our hands-on teaching approach, modern laboratories and industry standard equipment means that you will be well placed to enter the workplace on the completion of your studies.
The Forensic and Analytical Investigation MSci course at Keele will equip you with the key scientific, communication, team working and problem solving skills, developed to master’s level, that are sought after by employers. Our dedicated and supportive approach to teaching, excellent modern laboratories and industry standard equipment, mean that you will graduate with both a sound theoretical understanding and relevant practical experience across a range of analytical and forensic techniques. Our teaching strategy is designed to enable you to become an independent scientist who will have a great deal to offer prospective employers. Previous graduates have entered the workplace in a variety of forensic and general laboratory positions, or have taken a role in the police force.
