Media and Music Technology is an opportunity to combine the technical and theoretical understanding of these exciting disciplines with their practical applications. You will explore the relationship between media and society in relation to business, politics and international affairs, and engage with creative applications of audio and video technologies.

Our Media modules combine theory and practice. You will analyse a variety of media texts and have the opportunity to explore your own creativity in producing cultural artefacts. The course also provides opportunities to enter work placements through our links to the creative and media industries.
Music Technology encourages you to work with technology to carry out composition, music production, sound design, screen music, audio-visuals and music software. You will study many different styles and genres, inventing, capturing, recording, mixing and manipulating audio/visual content using advanced digital media.

You will have 24/7 access to the music practice rooms and music technology studios and the media building provides students with access to Apple Mac computers, a lighting and photographic studio and sound recording facilities, together with support from media technicians, to ensure students can deliver work of the highest quality.

The degree will provide you with technical skills and practical experience that are vital for the contemporary creative industries, from sound and music recording to film editing. In addition, the degree develops core transferable skills that are essential to the cultural industries and beyond, including collaborative work, analytical skills and aesthetic understanding. Having developed their own artistic personality, graduates of our programmes enjoy careers in media production, television and film, publishing, broadcasting, marketing, recording and production, sound design, soundtrack creation, as well as teaching at all levels of education. They also develop a wide range of skills in presentation, writing, project management and critical thinking that can be transferred to many other professions. You may also choose to pursue postgraduate study at Master's or doctoral level.
