Radical creativity with a conscience Studying architecture at Lancaster will give you the know-how to be agile and ethical in your architectural practice. Tackling three key areas: future practice, digital crafts and the climate emergency, this course will teach you to build with sustainability in mind and design innovative spaces that match the needs of the communities that will use them.
We are one of the first courses in the country to implement the latest ARB and RIBA guidance on teaching ethics, professionalism, fire safety and sustainability, ensuring your knowledge is fully up to date when you graduate.
Hands-on learning In your first year, you will develop small scale projects around Lancaster and explore their context and architectural principles. Your second year will give you the opportunity to design a retrofit live project and work directly with a client such as Lancaster Music Co Op or Queen’s Market Morecambe. You will then consolidate your knowledge in your final year developing a longer retrofit and new build housing project with mixed use facilities.
Building Connections for your Future With a strong and established network of national and regional partners, this course will equip you with the resources and the connections to effectively put your architectural skills into practice. Every student will have the opportunity to complete a placement in a local architectural practice through the RIBA North West Student Mentoring Scheme. This scheme provides two weeks’ experience within an architecture business, as well as valuable mentoring sessions with a professional architect.
Facilitated in part by the regional RIBA chapter and the Lancashire and Westmorland Society of Architects, we encourage students to start networking early, via events ranging from RIBA practice meet-ups, awards ceremonies, competitions, and cross-University studio reviews.
Study abroad The study abroad option is an exciting opportunity for anyone who is thinking of working abroad during their career or who simply wants the experience of living and studying overseas as part of their degree.
Experience and skills You will study in your third year at one of our international partner universities. This will help you to develop your global outlook, expand your professional network; increase your cultural awareness and develop your personal skills.
Host universities During your year abroad, you will choose specialist modules relating to your degree and potentially other modules offered by the host university that are specialisms of that university and country.
Alternative option We will make reasonable endeavours to place students at an approved overseas partner university that offers appropriate modules. Occasionally places overseas may not be available for all students who want to study abroad or the place at the partner university may be withdrawn if core modules are unavailable. Lancaster University cannot accept responsibility for any financial aspects of the year abroad.

My course was okay - I believe the course teaches you all the necessary skills needed to go into business, but I think it does scratch the surface level in quite a lot of topics. In the future, Iu2019d like it to go into further detail on topics such as Economics or Accounting.

Lancaster University has been really helpful in so many ways. Financially, they offered me a grant for travel costs when I embarked on an international internship, but also are greater at settling you into campus life in first year!

The bars offered are amazing and low priced. With the choice of multiple games. rnThe campaigns for student officers are very competitive and often do make change

The accomodation is very overpriced for universityu2019s. It is old unfurbished and the bathrooms are very badly designed. They flood when you shower and you have very little space to shower. It is single bed en-suite for 177.89u00a3 and compared to other unis it is very very overpriced, I feel itu2...
