Computer games design

Our foundation degree in Game Development is tailored to prepare you for employment within the games industry. You will focus on developing games bringing both the artistic and programming aspects together. With this understanding you will create games, effects and mechanics helping to form a game from its conception to its creation. You will be taught a variety of subjects that will support you in developing multiple skills in order for you to be able to create and release a game. You will work alongside peers from multiple disciplines to ensure the projects you create reflect industry practice. This course covers:

•Prop Creation
•Game Environments
•Game Engines such as Unity & Unreal
•C# & C++
•Group Projects
•Special Effects
•Game Theory

As you progress through the course, you will explore not only the current trends of games and their design but also delve into the past game history, looking at popular culture and mechanics that have evolved throughout the years. You will explore and analyse Game Design and Gameplay to understand the context to the work you are creating and to ensure you gain a deeper understanding of game creation. Through the understanding of multiple disciplines within the industry you will be able to independently create games and become an Indie Developer with the prospect of setting up a games company with peers or by yourself.

You will understand how to critically analyse and engage through your work and apply your knowledge to the creation of a game as the industry requires. Reflecting industry practice we promote the use of agile workflows and promote events such as Game Jams and Game Societies.

We focus on employability, so work is tailored to match and meet industry standards whilst also adopting industry workflows. We emphasise personal development, encouraging you to work with industry standard software and tools to create games.
