Are you passionate about sports and physical education? Do you want a career that involves educating children and young people about the benefits of physical activity?

Secondary Education, Physical Education and Sport is an accelerated degree, which means you'll graduate after just two years. You'll broaden your career options by developing strong subject knowledge in physical education and sport, while learning the key principles of educating children.

?You'll learn about our current education system and how children and young people learn effectively within it. You'll explore the social, psychological and physiological factors affecting learning and participation, as well as getting plenty of practical teaching experience in games, athletics, outdoor adventure activities, gymnastics, dance and swimming.

Our teaching is designed to prepare you for your career, with a strong focus on developing key skills such as independent learning, teamwork and responsibility. We take the same approach to assessment, which is a mix of coursework, practical teaching, oral presentations, examination and project work.

Putting theory into practice, you'll complete three intensive block placements as part of your degree. You'll get the chance to observe professional practice and analyse what makes teaching effective, as well as applying what you've learnt by delivering your own teaching.

You'll graduate in just two years with strong subject knowledge in physical education and sport, ready to begin your career in sport or progress on to postgraduate teacher training.

**Placement opportunities**
You'll benefit from 20 weeks' of professional work experience, thanks to the three placements you'll complete during your degree. You'll get the chance to experience a variety of different school and educational environments and settings, enhancing your CV and giving you a competitive edge when you graduate.

If you want to become a PE teacher, you'll have a competitive edge when applying for postgraduate teacher training. You'll also be well-prepared for other careers working with children and young people through sport and physical activity, in both educational and community settings.=

These include: Introduction to Education, Learning and Development, Active Children and Secondary Physical Education, Researching Children and Young People, Issues in Secondary Education, Organising and Managing Sport, and Youth Sport and Health.

One of the fastest growing subjects in the country, the number of sports science graduates went from under 3,000 in 2003 to over 10,000 in 2013. Numbers have fallen slightly since 2015, but we still have over 9,000 graduates in the subject. However, the good news is the country's appetite for good health and fitness - and the adaptability of graduates in the subject - means that sports science grads are less likely than average to be out of work. Sports science graduates, not surprisingly, tend to get jobs in sport, fitness and health - coaching and teaching especially - but they're found all over the economy. Management and business are also popular options for graduates from this subject — and sports science graduates are particularly found where drive, determination and physical fitness are an advantage.
