Fashion

The full time Higher National Diploma in Fashion/Design is a creative and vocationally relevant course equivalent to the first two years of a BA (Hons) degree. It prepares you for a design and manufacture career across the fashion industries. You will work with staff with a wealth of industry expertise and practice within the creative sector to develop professional design and manufacturing skills. You will also be offered opportunities for research and analysis in related specialist subjects.

The course team plan to work closely with several leading Fashion retailers and Footwear manufacturers which support the delivery of the programme. Networking and liaising with industry contacts is an integral part of the course. Design briefs offer creative challenges through developing illustration skills, graphic presentation, and 3D manufacturing. You will explore specialist garment production and footwear manufacturing sector skills, gaining an insight into tailoring, garment/shoe pattern cutting and garment /shoe construction.

Based on full cohort recruitment, students can expect approximately 12 to 14 hours of timetabled sessions per week.

As this course addresses the needs of today's fashion industry, there is a strong focus on work-based learning and the course covers a broad spectrum of fashion industry-related topics. You will study 120 credits in each academic year covering specialisms such as trend forecasting, branding, social media profile, studio photography as well as traditional fashion practices.

Creative Arts students can also benefit from having access to an extensive range of facilities within the area and opportunities to collaborate with other students across a range of creative arts pathways, further developing your employability and industry related skills.

You can top up to a full degree by either joining the final year of our BA (Hons) Professional Studies (Creative Industries) following successful completion of this course, or another alternative relevant top up degree .
