With access to experienced teaching, masterclasses from industry experts and the opportunity to further your skills to a professional level, our course will ensure you are a well-rounded triple threat performer. You will be challenged in three different disciplines to prepare you for your assessments and your progression beyond this course.

This dynamic 2 year course is designed to push you to reach your full potential, focusing on vocational training whilst still allowing you to tailor the program to your needs as an actor, singer or dancer. Our aim is to give you the tools you need to ensure that you can further your education eventually up to BA(Hons) Degree and to ensure that you have the employability skills so that you are ready to take on a role within the industry.
We will support you and expand your knowledge by exploring new topics with units that are tailor made to ensure exciting new skills are being learned as well as academic sessions in the performing arts industry.

You will also be given opportunities to show your progression by participating in performance projects in-house at our resident Sue Townsend Theatre and out in the community. Leicester has excellent links to the professional industry and we have a strong working relationship with Curve Theatre.

You will graduate with a HND upon completing this 2 year programme and will require a further 1 training year to gain a full BA (Hons) Degree. Upon successful completion of the 2 years you will be awarded a Higher National Diploma in Musical Theatre and you will perform as part of a group in the end of year production at our resident Sue Townsend Theatre. A 250 seat professional venue in the heart of Leicester City Centre.

Throughout the programme you will have researched and applied for Drama Schools and Universities with hopes of topping up to a full BA (Hons) as well as looking into/gained professional work and have a clear path for your next steps within the industry.


In your first year of training with us you will develop and perfect technical and performance abilities within your selected disciplines of the course, as well as exploring new and exciting ways in which you could work within the Performing Arts industry. You will learn in our suite of professional studios and theatres at Leicester College including 4 dance studios, campus theatre and the professional city centre venue The Sue Townsend Theatre. Classes will be delivered by our resident faculty of staff including those trained at leading conservatoires and universities.

You will be challenged appropriately and assessed accordingly to ensure you have a clear understanding of the areas that have room for improvement. You will be guided by both current and former industry professionals who intend on giving you a sound foundation and knowledge that has helped them whilst working in the industry.

You will study the following:

Acting for musical theatre; this will give you the transferable skills to ensure that your work as a singer and or dancer will be delivered with refinement and thought. You will work closely with peers to build a quiet confidence and refine your abilities. The variety of acting styles will also allow you to develop in areas in which you may have not yet explored.

Jazz dance, Ballet, Tap and Commercial dance; this will be the main body of dance work in year 1. You will be working towards a sound technical ability in all areas whilst applying performance skills and style. You will be assessed accordingly depending on the direction of your choosing. This will allow you the luxury of the tutor’s full attention and assessment feedback will be greatly detailed, giving you a clear understanding of areas for improvement moving forward.

Singing and vocal; sessions will involve both group work as an ensemble and as a soloist. This will allow you to refine skills as part of a large choral group and if you have chosen to focus on this area you will also be working on developing confidence as a solo singer and performer. You will also have many opportunities to show these developing skills to peers and audience members at regular performance intervals.

In the 2nd year/Level 5, you will combine the three aspects of the course (acting, singing, dance) and you will start to build upon the triple-threat performer by attending weekly sessions that will link directly to the preparation for either a top up programme at a University or preparing to go out into the professional world of auditions and castings. Not only will you be working towards being a sound performer, you will also be working towards becoming a savvy and intellectual individual who understands the requirements of being a performer, looking into topics such as: auditions, agents, networking, tax and nutrition.

As the course draws to a close you will be preparing for a final production as well as seeking further education or employment. It is our aim to offer as much support from both in house staff as well as guest lecturers, and visiting professionals whilst you transition from student to working artist.

Assessment methods

Assessments for the course will include both practical work in the form of studio/theatre-based performance. In addition to practical work, students are assessed via presentations and written coursework.
