We consider applicants offering Pre-U Principal Subjects or a combination of the Pre-U and A levels, provided a minimum of three subjects overall are taken. We recognise the benefit of the Global Perspectives and Research (GPR) course in developing independent study and research skills. While we would consider this as evidence of motivation to study a specific subject in more depth, we do not generally include it as part of our offer conditions. However, it may be used to further consider an application upon receipt of final examination results.

About this course
Our Business with an International Foundation Year course is designed for high-calibre international students who have not studied the pre-requisite subjects needed for first year entry or those that have successfully completed 12 years of school education, and need an extra year of study.
Completing a foundation year will enable you to progress onto the first year of Business degree courses, provided the relevant progression criteria are met
Our international foundation course is taught in-house by University staff, including specialist Foundation teaching staff.
As a student on the course you will be a full member of the University, with the same access to the Students’ Union, clubs, societies, sports facilities and support departments.
You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials.
Special emphasis is placed on subject-specific tuition to prepare students for their chosen degree course, as well as developing the study skills needed for success in an independent learning environment.
As a student on the International Foundation Programme you will receive high quality teaching from renowned Loughborough University academics and be supported throughout your studies by an academic tutor. During the year you will undertake modules in Economics, Business, Psychology with Sociology with a choice of Applicable Mathematics, and Modelling and Statistical Mathematics and English Language and English Language. You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials.
Language modules will build your confidence with the English language. In addition, you will benefit from our University Library, IT services, Mathematics Learning Support Centre and wide range of health and welfare services, including tailored support for international students.
Completing a foundation year can be a real attribute to your overall degree success. It not only opens doors to courses that may have previously looked closed, but also provides a sound base on which to establish a successful academic career. Many who have completed the foundation year have also said how beneficial it was to them in supporting their transition into University life.

Assessment methods
Foundation modules are assessed via written exams and/or coursework assignments.
Some modules are continually assessed throughout the year. Typical coursework assignments include: laboratory reports, essays, presentations, assessed tutorials, workshops and peer review (review fellow students’ performance). It is expected that for every hour you are in a structured class, you should spend two hours of your own time researching, writing up, learning work or doing set questions etc.

Top job areas of graduates
The number of business studies graduates fell significantly last year after a long period of increase. But there were still more than 14,000 degrees awarded and this is the third most popular subject for new graduates. Because so many graduates get business studies degrees, you can find them everywhere in the economy, and very few jobs are completely out of reach for a good business studies graduate. Around 40% go into jobs in finance, sales, recruitment, management (particularly retail) or marketing. There is also a small (but well paid) group who take their technical skills into computing and IT. Thousands of graduates from this subject go into professional jobs every year, and average starting salaries are above the average for all subjects and particularly healthy in London where they top £25k. Graduates with good degree grades in business studies are much more likely to get good jobs, so don’t be complacent, and keep a close eye on your grades.
