This course provides a strong foundation in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, equipping you with practical skills in programming and problem-solving using Python and other coding languages. You’ll study a wide range of machine learning techniques, including neural networks, support vector machines, genetic algorithms, and generative AI.
You’ll also explore advanced systems such as large language models (LLMs), ontology management, and distributed processing, applying these tools to areas like computer vision and natural language processing (NLP). Facilities include state-of-the-art laboratories and access to the latest technologies used in industry.
The course is taught by academic staff who are active in AI and data science research, and you’ll have the opportunity to work on real-world projects in collaborative settings. You’ll also develop skills in using computational tools, teamwork, communication, and entrepreneurship.
What will you learn?
In the first year, you will learn to program, and develop an understanding of the basics of AI, Data Science, and algorithms. In the second year, you will become fully grounded in Data Science, machine learning, and AI, and learn to apply large language models to practical problems. In the final year, you complete your understanding of AI, and specialize in two areas of AI in which you are interested. This will include an individual project supervised by a member of the programme team.

I was very busy working as an SLA and having another part time job on the side. They recently changed how many modules there are, some of them were merged to create one longer module and it takes a lot of time to catch-up as there’s only 6 hours of contact

The university started a £2 meal after people complained that the food costs were too high, they have a variety of low cost places nearby and every day there’s a vegan option and a halal meat option for the £2 meal

There was quite a lot of support available with the SLA team but that has recently been cut. The SLA team helped answer questions and helped look over assessments and give you feedback

They have a microbiology lab and a cancer lab with samples. You are taught about the microbiology lab in the first year and get to culture bacteria in second year to prepare you to choose what lab based dissertation you want to do
