The Higher National Certificate in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) covers the fundamental concepts, principles and theories of engineering, analysis and design, practical and technical skills, and transferable business skills relevant to engineering. This course is ideal for students wishing to work within the electrical or electronics engineering industries. This programme is flexibly structured and provides a practical and academic challenge within the framework of current industrial practices in engineering.

This course is particularly relevant to people already working in or looking to develop a career within Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

This course provides a range of skills relevant across a variety of different professions. People who have completed this course have gone on to work in areas including Manufacturing, Power industry, Design, Maintenance.

If you wish to continue studying beyond this course, it will provide you with a strong academic basis to do so. The Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate provides a solid grounding in engineering, which students can build on should they decide to continue their studies beyond the Certificate stage. The Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma allows students to specialise by committing to specific career paths and progression routes to degree-level study. On successful completion of the Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate, students can develop their careers in the engineering sector through:

• Entering employment
• Continuing existing employment
• Linking with the appropriate Professional Bodies
• Linking with the appropriate vendor accredited certificates [if appropriate]
• Committing to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

– Automation, Robotics and PLCs (15 Credits)
– Managing a Professional Engineering Project (Pearson-set) (15 Credits)
– Digital Principles (15 Credits)
– Electrical and Electronic Principles (15 Credits)
– Electrical Circuit & Devices (15 Credits)

Occasional changes to modules and course content may take place. Students will be notified when applicable.

Assessment methods

They will be all assignments however within the assignments there will be reports, lab reports, practical experiments and visits to relate theory to practical.
