BA (Hons) Music Production & DJ Performance?will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to succeed as a music producer and DJ performer in today’s competitive music industry.? Using your preferred DAW, you'll learn advanced music production skills to create your own tracks including composition, sound design and mixing. You'll also learn advanced DJ performance skills on state-of-the-art equipment, including remix and sampling techniques, electronic music performance and VJ skills. The programme also covers music business fundamentals and revenue strategies, preparing you to launch your career as a DJ/Producer while you're on the course.
The curriculum has been designed to reflect industry, with an emphasis on practical skills using the latest software/technology and music industry practices. Our lecturers have extensive industry experience (e.g. Pharrell Williams, The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack), as well as qualified expertise in teaching at degree level.? In addition to industry-based techniques, graduate skills which are valuable to employers are embedded into the programme. These include writing and presentation/communication skills, research skills and critical analysis.
The culmination of the degree involves embarking on a specialist project in a chosen area of focus, enabling students to produce a tangible portfolio of work.
Learning is supported by bespoke VLE course materials including tutorial videos, study aids, course notes, project examples, and formative tasks to help you complete your summative assessments. You'll engage in regular personalised tutorials with your lecturers to receive valuable feedback on your progress, and class sizes are small, ensuring productive learning environments.
You'll have the chance to use your performance assessment videos on this course to apply to play at exclusive AlphaTheta / Pioneer DJ events, including ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event) and IMS Ibiza (International Music Summit). There are further opportunities to perform at student showcase nights, termly DJ events, gigs at renowned venues like Ministry of Sound and fabric, and an annual competition to DJ at Elrow’s legendary parties!
Current Validation and Degree Awarding Powers This course is delivered by pointblank Music School, currently validated by Middlesex University. pointblank is applying for UK Degree Awarding Powers. If approved, either before your course start date or after you have enrolled, your qualification will be awarded directly by pointblank rather than Middlesex University, with no change to its level or value.
