A level
Including one essay based A level in a humanities or social science subject Applicants will also be expected to have a GCSE in a language or have experience of learning a language other than your mother tongue. Excluded subject - General Studies and Critical Thinking
Access to HE Diploma
We consider applications from students with the Access to Higher Education Diploma. The minimum academic requirement is to achieve 60 credits overall, with 45 credits at Level 3, of which 18 credits must be at Distinction and 15 credits at Merit or higher. Applications are considered on a case by case basis. Due to the high volume of applications, we do not make offers of study purely on the basis of meeting grade requirements. Applicants must have studied French to at least GCSE level.
We consider applications from students offering an EPQ and may make an alternative offer to include three A levels, one grade lower than our usual requirement, along with a specific grade in the EPQ.

Queen Mary University of London welcomes applications from students currently studying Level 3 BTEC qualifications and will consider you for entry to the majority of our undergraduate courses. The typical entry requirements will vary according to the course you are applying for. Some of our courses require specific subject knowledge which you may not be able to cover as part of a Level 3 BTEC qualification and we may therefore require additional Level 3 qualifications to ensure that you are suitably prepared for relevant courses. A small number of our courses do not accept BTEC qualifications for entry, either as a standalone qualification, or in combination with other qualifications at Level 3. About this course
Develop high-level Russian language skills and gain insight into the workings of today’s increasingly globalised world.
This four-year degree programme is jointly taught by the School of Languages Linguistics and Film and the School of Politics and International Relations, and combines two different, but often complementary, areas of interest.
You'll divide your time equally between the two subjects, with the flexibility to tailor your degree with a wide choice of modules. You'll gain an excellent grounding in Russian language, taking core modules in written and spoken Russian, and explore its fascinating culture, politics, society and history. You’ll also learn to engage with political theories, ideas and ideologies, governments and institutions, and comparative politics.
The programme will give you a sophisticated understanding of the cultural references that shape Russian identities. You’ll spend your third year studying or working in a Russian-speaking country such as Latvia, immersing yourself in its language and society. No prior knowledge of Russian is required.

Top job areas of graduates
The numbers of people taking politics degrees fell sharply last year and we'll keep an eye on this one - it can't really be because of graduates getting poor outcomes as politics grads do about as well as graduates on average. Most politics or international relations graduates don't actually go into politics - although many do, as activists, fundraisers and researchers. Jobs in local and central government are also important. Other popular jobs include marketing and PR, youth and community work, finance roles, HR and academic research (you usually need a postgraduate degree to get into research). Because so many graduates get jobs in the civil service, a lot of graduates find themselves in London after graduating. Politics is a very popular postgraduate subject, and so about one in five politics graduates go on to take another course - usually a one-year Masters - after they finish their degrees.
