Do you want to develop a career as an actor? Then FdA Performance in Practice is the course for you.

Developed with guidance from industry professionals and validated by the University of Hull, this vibrant and exciting course offers an intensive foundation training to develop your skills for a career as an actor in the Performing Arts Industry.

Over two years you will work on several performance projects ranging from devised to contemporary, classical and musical theatre performance.

In the first year you will explore acting techniques, voice and movement for actors, creating and developing characters and singing. You will explore different theatre practitioners and their approaches to performance and finish the year with a full-scale public performance to a paying audience.

In the second year you will develop a deeper understanding of the craft of the actor through study and exploration of classical performance, musical theatre performance, and devising original performance. At the end of the second year, you will form the cast of a major production to be staged in a professional standard theatre.

Year Two Classical Performance for a Twenty-First Century Audience Musical Theatre Skills Creating Original Performance Theatre and Performing Arts Research Major Performance Project

Entry Requirements • 48 UCAS points gained either through AS/A Level, BTEC National Diploma or UAL Extended Diploma in a relevant subject.

• GCSE English Language at grade C/4 or above or an equivalent (i.e. Level 2 Functional Skills).

• A successful audition and interview for which applicants should prepare two contrasting speeches and a song as follows: A contemporary speech (post-1990), which should be no longer than three minutes. A speech by Shakespeare or another Elizabethan or Jacobean playwright which should be no longer than three minutes. A song of any genre of no more than three minutes.

• If first language is not English and GCSE grade C / 4 English or equivalent is not held, English language proficiency level such as International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 6.0 overall (with a minimum 5.5 in each skill) will need evidencing.

Applications are also welcomed from mature students without formal entry requirements.

Assessment Performances, workshops, practical production, course work, reflective evaluations, and presentations.

Where Does This Lead? Students who successfully complete the foundation degree may top-up their qualification to a full bachelor’s degree with honours by progressing onto our one-year top-up course BA Hons Performance in Practice Top-Up.

Additional Costs Additional costs may include the purchase of books writing materials and clothing suitable for as well as visits the theatres and other performing arts related organisations It is estimated that these additional costs would not exceed £600 per year.
