We prefer to see at least one A Level or equivalent qualification in a Science subject We will generally make you an offer if your predicted grades are at the top of this range and you meet any subject specific requirements (where applicable). Nutrition

Chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancers and diabetes kill more than 36m people each year. An unhealthy diet is known to be a major risk factor in the cause of many of these diseases. Additionally diet and nutritional status can be linked to many other conditions such as osteoporosis, dental disease and dementia for example. This programme will provide a sound review of the scientific basis for the links between dietary factors, health and disease. The programme offers the opportunity for you to develop the professional competencies and skills required for the application of nutritional science in a number of fields. Applied modules on this programme include: Weight Management, Sports Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Food and Nutrition Policy and Health Promotion and Anthropometry.

Our Nutrition degree has been successfully accredited by the Association for Nutrition (AfN) since 2010. Studying an AfN-accredited degree programme will help you stand out in the job market and puts you at an advantage when compared to graduates coming from non-accredited courses.

If you study Nutrition as a single honours degree, you will be eligible to apply for direct entry as a Registered Associate Nutritionist.

Joint honours students can also enter as an become a Registered Associate Nutritionist will need to major in Nutrition and demonstrate additional competencies through an individual portfolio.

Modules

The first year is foundational and will provide you with the broad underpinning and grounding you will require to further your studies in specialist areas of nutrition. You will be introduced to important concepts in nutrition and ascertain the sources, functions and requirements for energy and all essential nutrients. In the second year you will build on the foundation knowledge provided in year one and explore the factors affecting food choice, the determination of nutritional requirements, the assessment of nutritional status, nutritional needs throughout the lifecycle and the links between nutrition, health and disease. Level 6 focuses on advanced and applied topics. Examples of modules offered include: clinical nutrition, sports nutrition, functional and novel foods, weight management, food policy and health promotion and a specialist module in anthropometry (measurement of human body composition), which can also lead to an external qualification from ISAK.
