Staffordshire University brings a fresh approach to education at its new Digital Institute London. Brand new for September 2019 the Institute is based at Here East, right at the heart of the Olympic Park in London. You will be taught in new open plan learning spaces with the best in new technology and have access to social spaces for industry networking to set you up for the best start.

Here East is home to a variety of communications, broadcasting and technological businesses and the metropolis of central London just a tube ride away, meaning the possibilities for social and professional development are endless.

This brand new course is the first of its kind in the UK and it will prepare you for a career as a games community manager of the future. Your creative skills will be developed as we immerse you in games culture from day one and our range of high tech equipment will really make you feel like you’ve stepped into an agency.

Creative thinking, striving for innovation on multiple channels and strategic planning are just some of the key skills you'll develop. From gaming communities to social media (Snapchat, Twitch, Reddit, Instagram and beyond), you will learn how to create gaming content and campaigns for a variety of outlets. During your games PR strand, you will get to analyse the academic and practical aspects of games PR. You will learn how to examine and develop innovative 360 games PR campaigns that may include social media, influencer outreach, events, consumer media, specialist games press, trade PR and working with third-parties and partners.

We have a programme of guest lectures from leading industry experts who will visit each semester to share their experience and set live, real-world briefs for you to work on. This will mean you’ll graduate with an outstanding portfolio and showreel that demonstrates you are industry-ready and can work in a games community management role or social media management role in a variety of industries.

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: BA (Hons) Games PR and Community Management

The UK has a world-class media industry in film, print and broadcast media, worth billions to the economy, and employing thousands of new graduates every year, so it's hardly surprising that ambitious and talented graduates want to work in it. But be realistic — this is a highly-sought after industry and jobs are amongst the most competitive around. If you want to be a star in front of the camera or in print, you might want to look at other options. Media studies graduates are much the most likely graduates to get into the media industry (in 2015, one in five grads entering the film industry, and one in four getting jobs in TV or film production had a media studies degree) and they’re more likely to be in crucial roles directing, producing, or operating sound or video equipment, or in media research or marketing roles. Self-employment and freelancing is more common than for most degrees, so that may be something to prepare for.
