Grades BBC Desirable Subject Offer: CCC To include ONE subject from Maths, Further Maths or Physics in GCE A Level
Overall profile of 63% (120 credit Access Course) (NI Access Course); to include a 20 credit Level 2 Mathematics module, passed at 40% or successful completion of NICATS Mathematics as part of the pre-2021 Access Diploma. Overall profile of 15 credits at distinction and 30 credits at merit (60 credit Access Course) (GB Access Course); to include a 20 credit Level 2 Mathematics module, passed at 40% or successful completion of NICATS Mathematics as part of the pre-2021 Access Diploma.

GCSE Mathematics Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) GCSE Grade C (or above) in English Language (or equivalent). Please note that for purposes of entry to this course the Level 2 Essential / Key Skill in Application of Number is NOT regarded as an acceptable alternative to GCSE Math
HNC (BTEC)
HNC Overall Distinction (with distinctions in 75 Level 4 credits) for year 1 entry only
HND (BTEC)
HND Overall Merit (with distinctions in 45 Level 5 credits) HND applications may be considered for Year 2 entry where the curriculum sufficiently matches that of the Ulster University full - time Year 1 course.
Minimum 25 points (12 at Higher Level) Higher or Subsidiary level in English Language and Mathematics required at Grade 4 or above.
112 UCAS tariff points to include a minimum of five subjects (four of which must be at higher level) to include English and Maths at H6 if studied at Higher level or O4 if studied at Ordinary Level.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
BTEC Level 3 RQF National Extended Diploma in a relevant Engineering subject area with DDM overall award grades to include a Merit in Engineering Principles and Merit in Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems. OR BTEC Level 3 QCF Extended Diploma in a relevant Engineering subject area with overall award profile of DDD. Also requires a Merit in either Mathematics for Engineering Technicians or Further Mathematics for Engineering Technicians, AND a Merit in Mechanical Principles and applications.

Top job areas of graduates
The number of business studies graduates fell significantly last year after a long period of increase. But there were still more than 14,000 degrees awarded and this is the third most popular subject for new graduates. Because so many graduates get business studies degrees, you can find them everywhere in the economy, and very few jobs are completely out of reach for a good business studies graduate. Around 40% go into jobs in finance, sales, recruitment, management (particularly retail) or marketing. There is also a small (but well paid) group who take their technical skills into computing and IT. Thousands of graduates from this subject go into professional jobs every year, and average starting salaries are above the average for all subjects and particularly healthy in London where they top £25k. Graduates with good degree grades in business studies are much more likely to get good jobs, so don’t be complacent, and keep a close eye on your grades.

Top job areas of graduates
We're short of engineers in a lot of areas and mechanical engineering is no exception. Mechanical engineers are in demand across multiple industries, with vehicle manufacturing most popular, with roles especially common in design and manufacturing. Other important sectors include aerospace, the oil and gas industry, consultancy and defence. Jobs are all around the country, with London, the Midlands, Scotland and the South East the most likely places for a new mechanical engineer to find work at the moment, and starting salaries are good. Although large employers are much the most likely place to get work, some of the most challenging, cutting edge jobs are with small niche engineering firms, so keep your eyes peeled if you want something a little different. Bear in mind that a lot of courses are four years long, and lead to an MEng qualification — this is necessary if you want to become a Chartered Engineer.
