UCB will accept A Level in General Studies for this course and will also take into consideration applicants who are studying an extended project.

Access to HE Diploma


You will need a minimum of 104 UCAS Tariff points. A minimum of 15 Level 3 credits at Distinction.



A relevant HNC or a foundation degree with 120 credits.



A relevant HND or a foundation degree with 240 credits.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)


This can be achieved from either an Extended Diploma or a combination of smaller BTEC qualifications.

Managing events is an exciting field offering considerable potential for graduates, with the UK industry estimated to be worth more than £42 billion. UCB's Events Management degree will help you develop the skills and knowledge you need to create exceptional event experiences. You'll go on a number of residential trips linked to your learning, and you'll also have the chance to undertake a paid 12-month work placement, allowing you to gain extensive real-world experience with industry organisations both in the UK and around the world. Our course is accredited by the University of Birmingham - one of the world's top academic institutions - as well as the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Our course is ideal for anyone keen to pursue a career in a variety of sectors within the events industry, ranging from festivals, exhibitions and sporting events to wedding planning, incentive travel and resorts.

One of the highlights of our course is the 12-month paid placement, allowing you to gain extensive industry experience that will serve as a distinctive advantage when you graduate. Our students have previously undertaken placements in events roles with the likes of BI Worldwide, Hilton Metropole, Intu Properties and Air BnB. You’ll also have the chance to work abroad, with past students having worked for the likes of Maxin Prague, Brussels Marriott Grand Place, The Peninsula Hong Kong, Nivea (Hamburg), Accenture (Amsterdam) and Nike (France).

There is the option to study this course without the placement year. This can be discussed at application stage.

You will have further opportunities to connect with local industry, as well as residential trips with essential costs covered by UCB. Previous students have visited the likes of Windsor, Cardiff, York, Oxford, Liverpool, New York, Milan (World Expo), Valencia (Las Fallas Festival) and Seville (Feria de Abril).

**What skills will I gain?**
You will gain an in-depth understanding of the key attributes in creating a successful live event experience.

Through our range of optional modules, you'll have the chance to learn about specialist areas including stadium and arena management, social media, financial strategy, global marketing, adventure events and 'dark' tourism.

By undertaking the 12-month work placement, you'll develop essential work-ready skills and valuable real-world experience to greatly enhance your career prospects.

Assessment methods


Course delivery is carried out by a team of events professionals and experienced lecturers. For example, a typical teaching week in the second year will have up to 14 teaching contact hours, made up as follows:
- Large group teaching - 5 hours of lectures in lecture rooms
- Smaller group teaching - 5 hours of seminars in small groups discussing topics presented in lectures
- Tutorials - 3 hours per week including a mixture of personal, group and academic tutorials
- Workshop - 2 hours of practical development sessions for placement and computer design
- Field trips and visits - overnight residential to York, local visits to Birmingham theatres, ICC and Arena Birmingham

**Individual study**

In addition, you are expected to commit to approximately 20 hours a week of your own study time in preparation for teaching sessions and preparing for and completing assessment. Our online platform Canvas provides 24-hour access to learning and support material.


There is a strong focus on the vocational nature of this course, including live project work. The modes of assessment are varied and include essays, reports, debates, business gaming, portfolio building, presentations and opportunities for research.
