About this course
The award-winning BA (Hons) Fashion course at UCA Epsom has a reputation for producing world-class designers and industry experts, and will really help you make a statement.
Our students have won a number of high profile design competitions, most recently the Hilary Alexander Trailblazer Award at Graduate Fashion Week 2018, and also the British Fashion Council Education Foundation sponsorship award, Graduate Fashion Week’s ‘Fashion Innovation’, ‘Best Womenswear’, and ‘Diversity Now’ awards and the ‘Muuse Special One to Watch Award’ – an international fashion talent competition in partnership with Fashion Scout.
Graduates have gone on to work for a host of top names – from Tommy Hilfiger and Givenchy to Louis Vuitton and Dr Martens – and with industry-standard facilities and experienced teaching staff, you’ll gain the skills and confidence you need to make your own mark in the fashion industry.
You’ll get real-world experience with a work placement, develop key transferable skills, learn all about visual communication, and become an expert in pattern cutting, garment manufacture, drape, tailoring and fabric manipulation.
Modules
In Year 1, you'll be introduced to the University and the technical workshops and facilities available to you. On the course you’ll learn the technical and conceptual skills that will give you a solid foundation from which to explore your areas of specialist activity. You'll be introduced to the contemporary design process. In Year 2 the focus is on finding your own specialist way of working and you’ll be encouraged and supported to start working more independently. You'll extend your design practice and further develop your creativity. During this year you may also have the opportunity to complete an industry work placement or even study abroad. You'll also develop your professional portfolio and career plan. Year 3 will see you achieve a greater level of independence with self-managed research, study and practice, resulting in a final major project and a written dissertation. You'll choose between industry focused or catwalk design pathways to pursue in this year.
