A level
A*AA in three A levels including Mathematics and Physics with A* in Mathematics or Physics (or Further Mathematics if applicable). If you are taking a GCE A level in a science subject, you will need to pass any separate science practical endorsement. Alternative A level offer: AAA including Mathematics and Physics plus one of: grade A in an EPQ grade B in the Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate grade M1 in Cambridge Pre-U Global Perspectives grade A in AS level Further Mathematics (where you not taking it at A level) grade B in a fourth A level, where your four A levels include A level Further Mathematics If you receive an offer for this course and are studying one of these qualifications you will be given both the typical and alternative offer. Access to HE Diploma
A pass in the Access to HE Diploma (in Science or Engineering) with at least 39 credits achieved at Distinction. This must include 12 credits from Mathematics units (including Calculus) achieved at Distinction and 12 credits from Physics units achieved at Distinction. Our Mechanical Engineering courses are academically challenging and require solid foundations of knowledge in Mathematics and Physics. We are able to consider Access to HE Diplomas in Science or Engineering, and we are looking for you to be studying a suitable level of Mathematics and Physics to be able to succeed in our courses. You will need to have studied Mathematics units worth at least 12 credits (including Calculus) and Physics units worth at least 12 credits. However, due to the time-limited nature of Access programme delivery, it is expected that you will have also completed a significant level of independent study in order to further develop and refine these skills.
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal
D2, D3, D3 in three principal subjects including Mathematics and Physics and D2 in Mathematics or Physics. Cambridge Pre-U alternative offer: D3, D3, D3 including Mathematics and Physics plus one of the following: grade A in an EPQ grade B in the Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate grade M1 in Cambridge Pre-U Global Perspectives grade M1 in a fourth principal subject, where your four principal subjects include Further Mathematics If you receive an offer for this course and are studying one of these qualifications you will be given both the typical and alternative offer.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
36 points overall and 7, 6, 6 in three Higher Level subjects including Physics and either HL Mathematics. Mathematics is required at Higher Level and we strongly prefer applicants with Physics at Higher Level. In exceptional circumstances we may be able to consider you if you are studying Standard Level Physics. Our typical offer in this instance would be 36 points overall with 7, 6, 5 or 6, 6, 6 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in either HL Mathematics plus 7 in Standard Level Physics.
OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma
D*D*D* in the Cambridge Technical Level 3 Extended Diploma plus grade A in A level Mathematics. Due to the mathematical content of the course, you will need A level Mathematics alongside your Cambridge Technical qualification. We are able to consider Cambridge Technical qualifications in Engineering, and prefer you to study as many units as possible in Physical Science.
Pearson BTEC Extended Diploma (QCF)
D*D*D* in the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (QCF) plus grade A in A level Mathematics. Due to the mathematical content of the course, you will need A level Mathematics alongside your BTEC qualification. We are able to consider BTEC qualifications in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering and prefer you to study as many units as possible in Physical Science. We may also be able to consider the above BTEC qualifications in Applied Science, Construction and the Built Environment, and Building Services. Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

AA in two Advanced Highers including Mathematics and Physics. We make offers based on Advanced Highers. You will typically be expected to have completed five Scottish Highers and your grades in these will be considered as part of your application. About this course
Specialise in vehicle design, performance, analysis and systems. Develop the engineering skills for a career in automotive and motorsport industries.
Our course is for engineers who want to apply fundamental mechanical engineering knowledge to the challenges of the automotive industry including areas such as cost, emissions, performance and materials.
Your first two years of study introduce you to the foundations of mechanical engineering to support your understanding of the subject. Using physical science, mathematics and computing, you'll learn how to assess engineering systems. You’ll study vehicle design, manufacturing processes and component analysis in the context of the automotive market. A range of specialist units in your final year allows you to choose where you want to advance your knowledge.
At Bath, project work is central to your study experience. Being able to take your theoretical learning and apply it practically gives you the skills you’ll need as a professional engineer. Group and individual projects are a chance for you to use your knowledge, initiative and creativity to solve complex engineering problems. You could join our award-winning Formula student team, Team Bath Racing. As part of the team, you'll contribute to the design and build of a single-seat racing car and enter in the annual International Formula Student competition.The balance of technical, teamwork and enterprise management skills you develop will prepare you for the workplace.
Studying an MEng degree gives you an in-depth study experience through advanced taught units and project work, and it fulfils the educational requirements you need to become a Chartered Engineer.
We also offer this course with a placement year, giving you the opportunity to gain work experience as part of your degree.
You have the flexibility to transfer to any of our five mechanical engineering degrees, as well as decide whether you want to go on placement, up to the end of your second year.

Top job areas of graduates
We're short of engineers in a lot of areas and mechanical engineering is no exception. Mechanical engineers are in demand across multiple industries, with vehicle manufacturing most popular, with roles especially common in design and manufacturing. Other important sectors include aerospace, the oil and gas industry, consultancy and defence. Jobs are all around the country, with London, the Midlands, Scotland and the South East the most likely places for a new mechanical engineer to find work at the moment, and starting salaries are good. Although large employers are much the most likely place to get work, some of the most challenging, cutting edge jobs are with small niche engineering firms, so keep your eyes peeled if you want something a little different. Bear in mind that a lot of courses are four years long, and lead to an MEng qualification — this is necessary if you want to become a Chartered Engineer.

Top job areas of graduates
Graduates are in significant demand, so unemployment rates are well below the national graduate average and starting salaries are well above average. Much the most common industries for these graduates are now vehicle manufacture - there are not enough people with these degrees to go round and so the big employers tend to take the lion's share at the moment. But pretty much anywhere there is manufacturing, there are production engineers.
