Our cutting-edge Architecture Foundation Entry degree teaches you all the architectural theory you’ll need, paired with conservation, sustainability and environmental issues.

**What you’ll do**

- Studio design modules take place two days per week and workshops are delivered by award-winning architectural practitioners and academics.

- You’ll play an active part in live projects and builds within the Institute of Architecture.

**Accreditations**

- This course is validated by the RIBA, a global professional membership body driving excellence in architecture. This validation recognises our outstanding facilities, focus on the student experience and commitment to employability.

- This course is expected to lead to Part I recognition by the ARB, the statutory body for the registration of architects in the UK. It enables you to progress becoming a chartered architect and ARB member.

**Future careers**

- Architecture Foundation Entry can lead to a career in an architectural practice with a professional accreditation, or into a related field.

- Successful completion of the foundation year leads to progression onto Year 1 of the BSc (Hons) Architecture. Following a year’s experience in architectural practice or related field of work, you are able to enter the MArch Architecture Part II at UCLan. The MArch Architecture Part II is prescribed by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Royal institute of Architects (RIBA) leading to Part 2 recognition, which allows you to proceed on a path to become a registered architect and ARB member.

- Postgraduate level programmes exist in architectural conservation, construction law, urban regeneration and construction management.

Architecture had a difficult time a few years back during the great recession, but those days are over and the degree is in demand as house building and infrastructure have increased in importance. Most working architects secure jobs in the architecture industry, more usually starting as assistants rather than full-blown architects or chartered technicians. Some, however, move into management, design or marketing roles, where they find their planning, design and project management skills are very welcome. Nearly half the architecture-related jobs last year were in London or the South-East, and this group are rather more likely than average to find their jobs through personal contacts, so polish your networking skills, or see if you can get work experience if you want to succeed as an architect.
