This one year programme aims to equip students with a range of skills required for successful study at degree-level in health and social care-related subjects. The course looks to develop academic skills alongside team working, communication and leadership skills. Throughout the year, the basic concepts of health and social care will be introduced using a variety of teaching and assessment methods to attempt to deliver an effective, rewarding and innovative learning experience. By meeting the course-specific requirements during the Foundation Entry year this course gives students the opportunity to acquire the entry requirements needed to successfully gain entry onto the following courses:

Pre-registration Nursing (Adult)
Pre-registration Nursing (Mental Health)
Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care
Midwifery
Sexual Health Studies
Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies

Alternatively, for those who wish to pursue further study in health and social care but do not have a specific professional route in mind, there is the option to complete the Foundation Entry year and then progress onto the Foundation Degree course. Following successful completion of the Foundation Degree, students can progress onto the one-year BSc top-up course to earn a BSc in Health and Social Care. Subject to achieving the relevant entry requirements, you may then have the opportunity to complete a postgraduate course and achieve professional registration in areas such as Nursing, Physiotherapy, Social Work and Occupational Therapy. Alternatively you may continue to expand your knowledge and expertise in health and social care by enrolling onto one of our masters programmes such as MSc Transforming Integrated Health and Social Care and MSc Applied Public Health.
