**About This Course**

Prepare for a career getting the best out of people with a degree in business management. You will learn how to combine an interest in people with an interest in numbers, becoming expert in both business strategy and human behaviour.

This degree, offered by Norwich Business School (NBS), in the Social Sciences Faculty at UEA, will prepare you to work within businesses, start your own company or work as a consultant. This is a highly flexible course that you can tailor to suit your interests and goals as they develop. If you know you want to work in business and to explore the different options within the field, this course lets you deepen your understanding whilst keeping your options open.

You’ll begin with a broad first year and in your second and third years you’ll have freedom to choose optional modules.

You don’t need to have studied business before to excel on this degree. You just need to be interested in business, have a curious, entrepreneurial mind, and be ready to work hard.

**Overview**

At NBS we believe that exceptional management is all about balancing hard and soft skills. That means understanding numbers and how to use them, and how to finance an organisation. It also means understanding people, how they behave and why they behave as they do. On this course you will become adept at this difficult balancing act. We also believe that anyone can become a great manager, no matter what their background is, so our course is inclusive and welcoming to all.

You’ll begin with a broad first year where you’ll explore a wide range of business roles and skills. In your second and third years you’ll have a lot of freedom to choose optional modules that let you delve deeper and specialise in the areas that fascinate you most. For example, modules such as Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management will prepare you to start your own business or continue on to Master’s level study.

You will have the chance to hone your qualitative and quantitative capabilities, at the same time as learning how to work with people, building your reflective skills, and your ability to look at yourself and your own work critically.

At UEA we focus on evidence-based management. You’ll learn to pose questions and challenge assumptions, as well as how to use evidence to make your own decisions and then back them up. You will develop quantitative and qualitative skills, learning how to deal with numbers and accounts, and how to interpret statistics, as well as how to manage people and resources. You’ll also gain experience working with others and presenting your findings and ideas – invaluable practice for your career, when you’ll need to not only develop solutions to problems but also persuade people of their validity.
