Overview The world urgently needs a new generation to help tackle global challenges like inequality, conflict, sustainability, and social justice. If you’re ready to make a difference, our BA in Global Development with a Placement Year will equip you with the knowledge and skills to drive meaningful change.
From day one, you’ll work alongside research-active lecturers to explore the lasting impacts of colonial and imperial legacies. You’ll uncover why partnerships between the Global South and Global North are essential for fair and just development and learn how to challenge power structures that drive inequality on local, national, and global scales.
You’ll explore how cross-cultural dialogues, resistance, mobilisation, and social action can achieve greater social and environmental justice and how people in different parts of the world shape development. You'll be encouraged to expand your understanding of diverse perspectives on development and experiment with action-driven research methods.
At UEA, you’ll be joining one of the UK’s longest established and most prestigious undergraduate Global Development courses. Our School of Global Development (DEV) is a vibrant community of interdisciplinary academics and 1st in the UK for Development Studies (REF 2021). You’ll connect to our exciting global development networks through our work placement programme. Recent destinations for work placements include Uganda, Peru, Thailand, Ghana, Cambodia, Belgium, Tanzania, and Cyprus, where students have joined educational, health, and environmental organisations.
Upon graduation, you'll have the professional skills and confidence to engage in critical global development debates. Whether you aspire to be a researcher, policymaker, NGO worker, activist, entrepreneur, filmmaker, writer, or teacher, a degree in Global Development will open doors to many rewarding careers. Overall id say that the inversity is okay, the course is good however the lectuerers arent the best and often times lectures feel quite pointless. Things cost a lot here too, with the laundrette and shop being very overpriced making it hard to budget money easily. However, the camous looks quite nic...

The student union are there all the time and are very supportive. They practically run the university and make it seem amazing. They run events almost every day and week and make the uni thrive.

Accommodation is definitely good and like a hotel. The library is open 24/7 and the campus kitchen has very good food. My room is amazing I opted for en suite room which is better than others. We share a kitchen which is ok as it can get dirty quickly. But other than that all is good

My course is pretty relaxing at the moment as it contains a foundation year. Itu2019s pretty easy as it sets you into the basics of computer science. The lectures are easy to understand and follow the workload is manageable and you get support where itu2019s needed

My university was very welcoming and my lecturers were very supportive. I am part of 3 societies. Islamic, badminton and Malayali Society. Iu2019ve really enjoyed going to university in Norwich and getting used to living here has been a challenge but interesting.
