Public policy

**Social & Public Policy** focuses on social problems such as poverty, homelessness and ill-health. The programme applies ideas from political science, sociology and economics to explore how governments shape their responses, and to understand the impacts of public policy on society. You’ll have the valuable opportunity of a work placement with a voluntary or public sector organisation.

**Theatre Studies:** this degree programme examines the nature and function of the theatrical event and theatre culture from critical, historical and practical perspectives. Glasgow has a vibrant and diverse theatre and performance scene. We have very strong links with the theatre and arts sector, giving you opportunities to be taught by and work with practitioners of national and international standing, alongside staff with reputations as world-leading researchers (REF 2014 definition of 4* research).

Just over 1,600 students graduated in social policy in 2015, which makes it one of the smaller social studies subjects. This is a popular subject at Masters level — 750 Masters in social policy were awarded last year - and so a lot of the more sought-after jobs in management and research tend to go to social policy graduates with postgraduate degrees. For those who leave university after their first degree, then jobs in social care (especially community and youth work) and education, the police, marketing and human resources and recruitment are popular — along with local government, although there are fewer of those jobs around than in the past. This degree is a bit less reliant on London for jobs than other similar subjects, so if you'd like to work outside the capital, it might be worth considering - although the jobs still tend to be in big cities.
