**Why BEng Industrial Systems Engineering (with placement)?**
Our BEng Industrial Systems Engineering course will help you to become an effective multi-disciplinary engineer, with the creative and technical skills necessary to flourish in an array of modern industrial technology careers. Taking a systems approach, the course will prepare you for advanced manufacturing and contemporary industrial engineering challenges, such as in integrating the digital world to drive smart factories and ground-breaking changes to connected devices. As well as gaining a solid grounding in industrial technology, operation, engineering design and management, you’ll explore exciting new methods and ideas in the field and learn how to apply theory to practical problems.

Building experience in project management, team building and data acquisition, you’ll work with engineers from a variety of backgrounds and benefit from our strong links with companies such as ABB, MOOG, SC Group, Spirax Sarco, Dowty Propeller, Kohler Mira and Total Metal Products Ltd. You’ll also utilise modern facilities and equipment, designed for hands-on experiments in both electrical/electronic and mechanical engineering.

Top job areas of graduates

This is one of the more popular areas to study engineering and there is not quite such a serious shortage of electrical engineers as there is of other engineering subjects - but there's still plenty of demand. The most common jobs are in telecommunications, electrical and electronic engineering, but there is some crossover with the computing industry, so many graduates start work in IT and computing jobs. At the moment, there's a particular demand for electrical engineers in the electronics, and the car and aerospace industries, and also in defence, and salaries can vary across the country depending on the industry you start in. Bear in mind that a lot of courses are four years long, and lead to an MEng qualification — this is necessary if you want to become a Chartered Engineer.
