Why Digital Marketing?
Digital, mobile and social media are changing the world and this course gives you the chance to be at the forefront of these exciting developments. Our Digital Marketing degree is designedto give you expert knowledge in relation to data analytics, alongside practical skills to manage and implement marketing campaigns via digital, mobile and social media. This course prepares you with the requisite knowledge, skills and experience to create, analyse and manage data driven initiatives as well as associated business processes to facilitate decision making. You’ll gain an Institute of Data and Marketing (IDM) accredited degree and the chance to apply for a placement working for well-known companies such as Huddersfield Town, The Baby Room and Freeman Gratton Holdings.

How will you learn?
You’ll learn through practical application and delivered lectures, workshops, seminars and group work sessions.

* The digital marketing course is designed to develop your professional skills in terms of data analytics, alongside practical skills to manage and implement marketing campaigns through digital channels.

* At Huddersfield we always aim to innovate. Innovation is at the heart of the Digital and Social Media Marketing course. By keeping things fresh and up-to-the-minute, the course is designed to give you the opportunity to get a great head start in a marketing career.

* You could find out how social media can be used as a marketing platform by businesses worldwide. You could also explore new technologies like augmented reality and artificial intelligence and learn how to manage and implement digital marketing campaigns.

* In your third year you have the option of going on placement working for an organisation and gaining an opportunity to apply and develop your professional skills.

The number of business studies graduates fell significantly last year after a long period of increase. But there were still more than 14,000 degrees awarded and this is the third most popular subject for new graduates. Because so many graduates get business studies degrees, you can find them everywhere in the economy, and very few jobs are completely out of reach for a good business studies graduate. Around 40% go into jobs in finance, sales, recruitment, management (particularly retail) or marketing. There is also a small (but well paid) group who take their technical skills into computing and IT. Thousands of graduates from this subject go into professional jobs every year, and average starting salaries are above the average for all subjects and particularly healthy in London where they top £25k. Graduates with good degree grades in business studies are much more likely to get good jobs, so don’t be complacent, and keep a close eye on your grades.

Want to join a fast-moving, diverse industry that's at the cutting edge of tech? Try marketing! A lot of the jobs are in London, but graduates don't just go to work in advertising agencies — all sorts of industries do their own marketing these days, and with the rise of digital and mobile technology, a lot of marketing is done in quite innovative ways using a wide range of methods. Common industries (apart from advertising and PR) include recruitment, online retail, higher education, banking and IT. A lot of jobs in this industry are handled through recruitment agencies, so if you get in touch with them early, that might give you a headstart for some of the jobs available. But be careful — unpaid working is not the norm in the marketing industry, but it is more common than in most sectors.

There are a lot of computing courses out there, and they vary a lot in content, modules and the way they work with employers, so individual courses can have very different outcomes. This is a course where you really need to get a good grade — employers really pay attention to the class of your degree and a low grade will serious hit your prospects. But you can get a job on pretty much any industry in the country with a computing degree - and organisation with an IT system and a web site needs graduates in this discipline - and many employers report difficulty in finding graduates. So most students do get jobs, and starting salaries are good, particularly in London.
